The holes for the power steering bracket bolts in my block are stripped so there is no way for me to secure the power steering pump in it's proper location. I've already put to much money into this block to just take it out and have everything moved to a different block (see profile). So, I want to just go to an electric steering pump setup and call it a day. A manual steering rack is out of the question because I plan to run the car in a few time attacks next summer.

What pump are you guys using to do this? Where do I get it? Are there any problems you've run into? Who's done it?

I've not heard of anyone using an electric one. I don't know if the stock alternator puts out enough power to run an electric PS pump.

I know of at least one guy who has used/ is using them. 9secondtalon has one on a car he is currently working on. Not sure if he had one on his old car but I have seen them before. I meant to ask him where he got it because I have considered switching to one as well. If I can get ahold of him Ill post anything I find on it.

That would be great. I found one but it was $900 which is ridiculous for a pump, I think. I haven't been able to find one anywhere else yet. After I find a pump I will check to see how much juice it needs to drive it and if our alternator can put out that kind of power.

I'm going to start looking into it. I would have to take off the water pipe to get to them which would be a PITA. Also, it looks like this is something very few people have done to there DSM's. It would be fun to figure it out and maybe post a DIY Tech article.

We'll see if anyone can find a pump to use.

Some of 2G MR2s (91-93) had an electric ps pump as well as some subaru xt6s. I have seen MR2 PS pump used on civics. If you get the MR2 pump get the relay as well.

Good luck.

MIdsm, thanks for the info. I'm going to check out the MR2 pumps and I just heard that the new mini's have electric pumps that you can pick up for around $370. I'm going to try to find out the electrical demands for the both pumps this week. Looks like this may just happen.

I know the Mini's pump comes with the reservoir attached, very convenient. I thinking about mounting the pump where the stock reservoir is. That way I don't have to re-run all the lines.
