alright guys ive never worked on a dsm but i know this alternator cant be as difficult to remove as im making it.

ive removed the splash guard now ive read about how to remove the serpentine belt but id figure id check on here with you guys first. better safe then sorry.

i know i need to loosen the belt but im unsure as to where the main component is located. also it seems that two of the power steering pump bolt are not accessible with a wench.

any info would really help.

ALOT of cursing and knicked knuckles and you will be done....Just take off all the bolts then the alt should slide in releasing the belt..Then wiggle alot and there you go..I did mine 2 years ago, and that's how I got mine done..I was confused to but I went and figured it out..

This was on a 4g63 though, but i'm sure it's the same concept..

figures LOL well see ya later knuckles. first car where its on the bottom kinda threw me for a loop.

im not looking fowaard to removing all the bolts on the power steering pump my fingers are going to hate me.

i really hope its easier to put in i just wanna get this thing back on the road. and washed after 5 years in the garage.

Take off the radiator fan and buy the oil filter there's a nut and on top of it there's a tensoner. Behind the drivers tire you can see the other side of the bolt pull it out with some pliers. Make sure you disconnect the battery before messing with anything! Good luck and once you do it you'll realise it's no that hard.

Ouch, 4G63 is cake.

Take your time and make sure your alternator really is dead before you go any further. I made that mistake once a long time ago and it's not something I care to do again.

Prelube everything with a good strong penetrant like PB Blaster to help get those old bolts off and your job should be a lot easier.

Also make sure to remove the battery so you don't get some arching and sparking.

I made that mistake hurt like no other when the wrench touched the radiator!! Never make that mistake again.

ok so heres the deal, i have the alternator off but it will not come out. it seems like the bracket it was bolted too is stopping it from coming out and it wont fit by the axel.

am i missing something here? i tried removing the bracket but the bolts wouldn't budge.

stopped for the night gonna give it a go tomorrow.

any advice?

Sure, it's easy for you to say since the DSM alt is in front -above the oil filter and under the PS unit. Take the AC fan out and it's a breeze to take out.

He's a 420A Dodge motor which on the opposite side and in back .. not an easy task to do in the parking lot.
