My fuse box relocation (project log)

Future mods will come slowly as I can afford them, but these are top priority:
DG suspension

I'm not familiar with this hardware. Could you elaborate why you are choosing this equipment, where you plan on getting it, etc..? Your goals are the same as mine and you've proven you have good judgement in parts.

DG = Dennis Grant

He has designed a coilover setup for 2g's and was kind enough to publicize the plans.

And for more reading on shocks:

There are better shocks to be had in combination with his upper mount plate design, but if Koni's worked for him I'm sure they'll be just great for a novice like me. In addition, the "better" shocks substantially increase the cost of the coilover setup and it's hard to justify that extra cost for possible benefits. Examples of this would be gixxerdrew's and greengoblin's setups which use a DG style upper mount/standoffs with KW v3 variant shocks.

It just took me like 2.5 damn hours to just "skim" this thread. LOL

The setup looks amazing.

One request, can you go over your process for polishing that Greddy intercooler pipe? I'm assuming this process would apply for other aluminum parts.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Not much to say about the polishing process really. I started with 320ish or so grit sandpaper and wetsanded. Then I progressively made my way up to 1200 or so grit sandpaper with a bunch of steps in between. After I was done wetsanding I buffed it with Mothers mag and aluminum polish a bunch of times.

Hmm sounds straight forward. All of it by hand? Did you do the actual polishing by hand?

The pipes look very nice and I want to do my compressor housing.

There's a guy on Youtube, Jafromobile, that uses black rouge (I think I spelled it right) to get the final finish.

I did it all by hand. I don't have any fancy polishes or machines to help. Since the pipes were pretty smooth to begin with it wasn't that difficult. It did, however, still take me a long time to complete.

i love it! i am starting to rip apart my 95gst so i could do an engine rebuild. what is the best method to remove the engine out of the bay, top or bottom? i will buy an engine hoist but if you guys know of a better method let me know. thanks!!!!

Holy..just holy...

Ive been a lurker for a long time, but I absolutely had to post in this thread. This was the best thread ive ever read. So much time and work put into this project. You have a lot of patients I can tell. I hope everything works out for you man. This project is great! Keep it up! You get major props from every DSMer.

Thanks!

As for making harnesses, no chance. Too much money and too much time.

Is there a summary post somewhere with all the wire tuck / fuse box relocation info somewhere? I read through the thread and i think i have found most of the threads with the info relating to that, but i didnt know if there was some post somewhere listing all the info and pdfs/docs/ect.

I did have one post (not sure where) that had a bunch of documents in it. I know I've revised a few of them since so I'll have to reupload them again. I may have made some hand written revisions too so I'll check out the paper copies next weekend and then reupload them all again for you.

Here's an easy way for anyone to look through ALL of the files that have been attached to this thread. Go to the Hangout and find the thread in the list. In the same 'cell' as the title and page numbers, there's a little picture of a camera on the right hand side. If you click it, a new window pops up which contains links to every file that has been attached to this thread (uploaded, not linked [i.e. Photobucket image]). This will work for any thread that has a file uploaded.

I used stock wires that I cut out of other portions of the harness to lengthen the fuse box wires. I just matched gauges for each particular wire (and tried to match color as best as possible), so I don't know specific gauge sizes for you. If I had to guess, the majority of the wires ranged from 16 gauge to 20 gauge, depending on the particular wire.

Eric - You have inspired me to clean up my engine bay when I replace my motor. I may only have a N/A but still, it'll give room for future improvements and allow for easier accessibility.
