Max safe boost? [Merged 10-6]

Ok guys so here is an update. I went to bpr7's for spark plugs, Instead of using a gm maf I used a 2g maf, put my injectors in and put the fuel pump on. Car seems to running good for right now. I havent used my MBC because my 16G is putting out 15psi on it's own. Remember this is a 14B with small 16G compressor wheel. I thought my waste was set to 11psi and with this new compressor wheel its running 15. Any ideas? I was thinking about turning up the boost to 20

That is the problem. I haven't bought anything that would be able to monitor the fuel. I just bought a Vlink 3 days ago waiting for it to come.

And those gaskets and seals I am going to go get the parts here in a bit. I am going to replace the oil filter housing, oil pump cover, water pump gasket, ordered a new idler pulley and a new tensioner pulley as well. The noise is very minimal right now after driving the car for about 30 minutes yesterday the noise comes and goes but it's very light now it's not nearly as loud as it was. Maybe because I haven't driven the car in a month the lifters needs time to get oil through them enough to stop ticking?? I dunno

I know that people make threads like this nonstop but I have searched and couldn't really find anything on how much boost it would be safe to run on my car. I already got told by someone right around 13-14lbs but I just want to verify that he is correct. (nothing against him) But Here is my mod list. I have an safc but when I installed it the car ran like shit and misfired and threw a CEL so I just took it off since I was on stock inj. with the stock turbo but now I need it.

20g
sbr cast manifold
arp headstuds
mls headgasket
mbc
fmic
wally 190
evo 9 bov
safc (not installed)

With a bigger turbo, there is no safe boost level. Your best choice would be to run it on stock boost, cause its gonna creep.

Your gonna need to upgrade your injectors, at least 650's, no more then 680cc, if your gonna use the safc. Your pretty close to having all supporting mods, you have a higher flowing fuel pump 1/2 way there with fuel.

If your HG is sealing good your set with the arps to run high boost just need a real good tune.

Oh sorry I also have evoscan. But i'm not sure if I am going to stick with the safc. It's a pain in the ass when it makes the car run even worse than it did to begin with. Does everyone's car throw a CEL when installed?

And my turbo is setup for external WG so im not sure how bad I am going to be creeping....

^^ yes I do! I am thinking about purchasing the dsmlink lite when it comes out. I think that would be a million times better than tuning with a shitty safc but for now I guess it will do.....

Did you get a WBO2 yet?
If you did, just watch your AFR, IDCs and timing to make sure your not getting a wicked timing curve or frying up the stock injectors. 13-14psi seems like it should be okay but you won't know until you have an idea of what your AFR is at. Shoot for 11:1 and keep the boost low so your IDCs aren't sky high. 80%IDCs is good but over that and you're really starting to make the injectors work hard and go static.

Last time I talked to you I was hoping dsmlink lite would've been out by now, but it looks like they keep pushing it back. Since you have a eprom ecu, you can always talk with Jeff@ dsmchips.com
This way you can keep the SAFC and use it for fine tuning. (Unless you really hate the thing.)

What is your wastegate spring rate psi? Since your said 13-14 I'm assuming you have a 1 Bar spring like me :), but I could be wrong?

Well I would defently keep the safc if it wasnt such a pain in the ass. I installed it corectly (I'm 99% sure) and it still ran like shit. But yes I will be using a 1 bar spring bro.

Well just look at the idcs..If you dont have a wideband you can kinda use the front o2 and the knock on it

I've got a new Turbonetics 60-1 Turbocharger, what would YOU set the boost at for the following mods:

Forced Performance Aluminum Intake
Blitz SUS Air Filter
Walboro 255lph Fuel Pump
PTE 550cc injectors
Stainless Steel Race Header
Big Greddy 24-R Intercooler
Custom aluminum sheet metal intake manifold
Tial 40mm wastegate (currently has 15.95lb spring in it)
Greddy Type R BOV not vented
SBR Stainless 3" o2 housing (external dump)
Buschur Full 3 inch Down Pipe, No cat (straight through Stainless section)
62mm Bored Throttle body
Buschur UIP
170 degree thermostat
Fluidine Radiator
Flex-A-Lite Fan Cluster
Prothane Mounts
Magnacore wires
Greddy Catch Can
1g Head
Apexi Super AFCII (dash mount)
Pocket Logger Software for DSM, OBD2, with Palm 105 PDA
Hallman boost controler
Blitz Turbo Timer(DC-2)
Phantom EGT and Boost guage in dual A-pillar
PLX Wideband O2 meter
Symborski Shift kit
B&M short throw shifter
Prothane tranny mounts
Exedy Stage 2 Organic Clutch
Fidanza Lightweight Flywheel

16psi (wastegate pressure). Anything beyond and you're out of fuel.

At 16psi that turbo's not even close to moving (compressing) any air. Get ready to be beaten by 16G-powered cars running 18-20psi on the same fuel injectors.

You either need to downsize your turbo to something that is more efficient at 20psi or less, or you need to upgrade your injectors and head gasket to get your current setup to around 25psi. You have the supporting mods to do it.

Your at the point where I would get 950's loose he AFC and get some really tuning software along with what was metioned above. If you have a good tune then your rods and pistons should be fine. Knock is what will kill your motor not boost so much. Howeve your going to be riding that edge.

Kevin

I run a T3 0.70ar S258 @ 32psi on pump gas and good tuning..I have gone 129.5ish mph and 11.1 its making power to go 10s. Im stock block with headstuds. Stock motors are very strong, you don't need to build the motor unless you plan to make over 500awhp, I don't understand why people build motors on their 16g setups. Unless there just doing it to bump up compression to 9:1 or so.

Theres a guy on here who made 597awhp on a dyno dynamics dyno I believe, stock motor as well. Im sure guys have made higher.

However, You need to upgrade you injectors, and some good ems would be a step in the right direction, either the dsmlink everyone loves, or aem if you can afford it. Megasquirt, Haltech, Motec are all great options which I have no opinion on because I have no experience with any of them on dsm specific applications.

Since he has a 2G, that means he is probably on a 7 bolt. According to most people and most results, they do not hold the same power a 6 bolt does.

My 60-1 and with my stock 6bolt 2XXk bottom end can run 24psi fine. I would suggest getting larger injectors since on my evo injectors (560's but flow a decent amount more than your 550's) at >20psi were already at 9X% IDC's.
