Hey guys, I just bought a 1991 GST for $500.00, you will not find a better deal than this anywhere else. Now you might be thinking, "I bet it's only the shell". Well thats where your wrong. The car has 100% exterior, 100% interior (Super Clean), and the motor and tranny are working 100%.

I will be the 3rd owner of this amaizing car, and the last guy didnt know anything about cars and never raced it. The car does have high miles, but he only owned it for about a year. The guy before him rebuilt the car 87k miles ago.

The car has 287k miles, and the guy sold it to be because he thought that the car had come to his end since it dies, and runs rough. After diagnosing it myself, I re-charged the battery to 100% and it doesnt seem to be the problem for the car dieing. It is the alternator that does not work anymore. The reason why the car is running rough is because the timing is off, needs new spark plug wires, and new injectors. Also maybe change all the fluids in the car.

This my is my first time owning a DSM, yet alone a turbo car. I have been doing research ever since Ive bought the car and it seems that I have been learning fast. But I might need some help recognizing some of the parts. I have a plan for what I want to do with the car, I will explain this later.

BOV:
I tried doing some research on the BOV's, and tried finding out which one this is. I even looked all over it and it has no writing or anything. So does anyone know which bov this is? And is it any good?
<script src='http://imageshack.us/shareable/?i=bovs.jpg&s=707&p=tl' type='text/javascript'></script><noscript>

Boost Controller:
Does anyone know any info on this boost controller? I thought that a boost controller was electronic and went inside the car...LOL? Is this boost controller any good? How do you know what psi your turning it to? Kinda wierd.
<script src='http://imageshack.us/shareable/?i=boostcontroller.jpg&s=11&p=tl' type='text/javascript'></script><noscript>

External Wastegate:
If im not mistaking, this is an external wastegate right? I was just thinking about leaving this how it is. Maybe give it a good cleaning or so, but what do you guys think? Sh:hellyeah:ould I leave it like that, or should I get a wastegate?
<script src='http://imageshack.us/shareable/?i=externalwg.jpg&s=13&p=tl' type='text/javascript'></script><noscript>

FPR:
So I know that if your gonna push higher horsepower than stock, that you should upgrade the FPR. And since I do have T4 turbo and palan on pushing 350hp, i want to upgrade. But is this the stock FPR? looks like the stock one. Denso-1262.

Injectors:
Ok so this is probably one of the stupidest things someone can do. I seen that these are not stock injectors. To have a T4 turbo you can probably get away with 550cc, but seriously. These are 240cc injectors, who would put anything lower than 550cc injectors if upgrading the turbo? I was thinking maybe get 660cc injectors. What do you guys think?

FMIC:
I have a JDM Sport Intercooler installed, are these good intercoolers? Ive tried looking for reviews but I guess none yet. Has anyone installed these on there cars? Should I change it out for a better one down the line? It has 3" piping.

???:
I have these 2 hoses that are not connected anywhere. I wanted to see if maybe you guys can shed some light on them. The one on the left comes out from the Power Steering, where does it go? The one on the right seems to be connected to the steering column, and just sits there. Anywhere specific there suppose to go, or connected to?

Turbo Manifold:
Noticed that it had an aftermarket turbo manifold, anyone know if this is a good one? Should I leave it on there. They said that the stock one is good for high horsepower so im guessing these ones would be better.

Turbo Something:
Not sure what it called but, let me know if im wrong. I thought that the turbo was suppose to have a filter at the end of the tube... This seems to have some piece of plstic at the end of it. Anyone know whats up with that? Please explain.

???:
I know that this is something that has to do with vaccum but has no hose to it. This is right under the FPR and next to the camshaft gear. What is suppose to go to it? Any advice?

I was thinking of maybe doing a compression check, a full leak down test and than go from there. If everything comes out fine that I should turn up the boost and change some other minor stuff. If it comes out bad, than i will rebuild the whole engine. I will send the block to a machine shop and get it remachined, aswell as the head. Change seals and other things. Than going with metal gaskets. I would also go with ARP head bolts.
What do you guys recommend though, 6 bolt or 7 bolt? I heard that the 7 bolt is more free reving. Wouldnt that be best for road racing? I want to do nothing but road racing and push about 350-375hp. With reliability. I have not checked the fuel pump but I will get the 255lph.
Let me know what kind of things you guys reccomend and stuff. The car also has boost gauge, AFR gauge, and other gauges but they dont seem to work. So what do you guys think can be causing that. Maybe there just for show and didnt conect them right. Will look into that.
I also took off the Oil Cap and what do you guys think? Hows it look, im thinking it might be a good time for a rebuild. How do the camshafts look?
Thanks for any input guys. I just want to learn everything about this car to do the build right the first time. I love DSM.

Nice steal. That looks like an eBay boost controller and greddy knockoff bov to me. I would say upgrade it:) you should also check your cyclone intake manifold to see if its hooked up properly. That nipple coming off your valve cover by your boost controller should have a filter on it IMO. Just start researching and checking your car I can't tell you how many things where wrong on my car when I picked it up. Good luck.

looks like a pretty sweet deal. The blow off valve is a greddy knock-off style ebay one. I had one and it didn't work for crap. The boost controller is just a cheap manuel one. They make electronic boost controller's that can get pretty expensive, manuel ones work too. They only way really to tell what boost it's set to is to do a pull and see what it's boosting and turn it one way or another to raise or lower it to where you want.

The body kit looks like crap but the interior is pretty clean. Under the hood should say "built by ebay" and needs some TLC. There are wires all over the place and line not hooked up. Not bad at all for $500 though.

That is definitely an ebay "bleeder style" MBC. Check out this link to make sure it is installed properly and for more info on it. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/281518-how-install-turbosmart-tee-style-bleeder-style-mbc.html

Also you should recirculate your BOV with the stock MAF as the air it is releasing into the atmosphere is metered and will cause the car to run rich after shifts and can cause other troublesome issues as well.

Recirculate that BOV asap boost controller looks like an ebay special as well as maybe be turbo cant quite tell from the pics

Why is there 2 of the same threads but with one title spelt correctly on "advice" vs. "advise"

WOW great deal on this car! 500$ and this mods do not look ebayish. Do maintenance and then get her dynoed

Am I the only one that can't see the replies after the OP's post? I probably won't even be able to see my (this) reply

I can't see replies for some reason. But your BOV is an eBay Greddy knock off. The boost controller is a Turbosmart eBay knock off. The turbo and manifold are eBay pieces, and the wastegate also looks to be. JDMsport is an eBay brand. Either way, for a no rust 1g $500 is a score. I payed a lot more than that for mine! It also has a Cyclone intake manifold and Prothane motor mounts. Check if the manifold and boost controller are hooked up properly. You use that boost controller by turning it in VERY LITTLE increments and looking at your boost gauge and log.

BOV looks like the one that comes with the punishment-racing/godspeed project FMIC sets. It's basically a greddy type-s ebay knockoff. Everyone says they leak, mine hasn't yet. Keep it til you get can something better

That bov looks like a ebay one. It's missing the nut on the top to adjust it also it should be recirculated unless you have sd or gm maf. The boost controller also looks like an ebay one i had an ebay boost controller and it did its job.

The boost controller and bov look to be ebay specials if there is now writing on them..

First things first if you plan on getting the car running right..Heres a list of things to do..plugs,wires, fuel filter, pvc valve, change fluids, timing belt, and water pump..As well as the alternator..

If you plan on upgrading down the road I would sugggest some way to tune the car as in SAFC, or dsmlink..An safc will only tune 700cc injectors..And if you plan on going balls to the wall or getting the best bang for your buck-dsmlink..

Does the car have an aftermarket boost gauge? If not I would add that to the list as well..

Ok buddy you got a steal! and to your other questions, that is an ebay BOV and boost controller, thats called a manual boost controller, and yes electronic boost controller go inside the car. the way you adjust the boost is by turning the little knob on it in very little increments and use your boost gauge in your car to see how high you have set it. It should work just fine for your purposes...as for the BOV, the stock DSM bovs are actually quite reliable and high quality, some would say comparable to tiAL, who makes very good quality bovs, when you are choosing a BOV not only grade it on performance but some people prefer the aesthetic sound of one brand over another, try youtubing some videos of peoples cars with different bovs....I also reccommend the HKS SSQV bov, they are pretty tight....hope I helped a little...
