I just bought a 97 GST, the person that I bought it from wasn't the original person who modded the car. After purchasing the car, I notice that while on idle the boost gauge would be around 16psi, while driving in first gear it'll spike to like 25psi around 3500rpm. Now here's my question, I'm not too familiar with turbocharge cars and try searching the forums to learn more about it, and I just want to make sure my car isn't going to break down on me, so is this normal? If not, then how am I suppose to correct this problem? Also, the car is around 140,000 miles, was planning on changing timing belt, water pump, gaskets and such, is there anything else that anyone would recommend on changing? thanks in advance, any help is much appreciated!

2gs dont say a number so he has a boost gauge and it sounds like it is broken to me.. I would invest in a new one tonight... There is no way it should read 16 at idle unless it is vacumm...

With a Mitsubishi you can forget about reliability... Are you running a stock head gasket? If so don't let the boost spike over 20lbs or you will be replacing the head gasket as well.

I blew the head gasket on my old gsx at roughly the same miles that is on his car WITH a T-25...assuming his car still has the stock turbo on it.

Either your gauge is broke or your just reading it wrong. If it is broke I agree with getting a new one quickly.Good idea about all the maintenence getting done as well.

With it at idle and if the boost gauge is reading 16 psi wouldnt you be able to tell if it was the gauge itself, because you should be able to hear the turbo spooling hard when your setting at idle. And with if it is a T-25 i agree the it would break alot more than Head Gasket especially if it spikes to 25 psi.

Yeah at 16psi the spool would be way louder than the idle.

The gauge should be at zero when the car is off. If it says 16 anything when the car is off then the gauge is KO'd.

If at idle it says 16 to the LEFT of the 0 then that's vaccuum and that's good.

16psi to the RIGHT of the 0 at idle......gauge KO'd.

25psi on a T25 is gonna end it quick. The head gasket should live though.

thanks guys, its confirmed the gauge is broken, had a friend help me checked it, also for some weird reason, my check engine light just turned on, have no clue why, but I'm going to check it once I find my OBD II checker somewhere. Will post the codes up and hoping if anyone can tell me what those codes means would be appreciated.
