Hi, I just purchased a 1990 Eclipse GST and had some questions. One question is what kind of upgrades I need in order to run 14s. I don't want to crank up the turbo and also I'm on a tight budge after buying the car. Another question is about the exhaust. Is 2.5" Piping too small for the turbo? Should I go 3"? I know 3" piping is much better but I'm trying to save some money so is 2.5" piping still good? Thanks.

Its not going to take much to run 14's...
Follow the upgrade path here on tuners, id suggest, if you dont plan to do too much, get a K&N filter and hack the air canister. Also if you arent upgrading the turbo ever, go 2.5 on exhaust. If your future plans include a 16g or bigger turbo, may want to consider a 3"

Being a 90 id suggest doing some maintenance before you go out and start beating on it. How old is your timing belt? Water pump? Last oil change? Diff fluid? With out altering the boost your not going to gain too much power. You will have to "crank up the boost" a bit.

I agree with TurboDSM86 - any time you buy a new car, scout over it until you know the cars entire condition, if it needs new belts, how is the tranny, spark plugs, wires , radiator flush, rotors, braking in general? just the little things before even thinking of making it fast.

Get a 3" exhaust, most the people that get 2.5" say they are happy, but we all see the look in their eyes, the "I messed up" look.

Don't be scared to crank the boost up (check the turbo for play since its a new car to you... remove the intake piping.) these turbos are pretty cheap as long as they only destory themselves... :p

Right now I'm running 13 on a engine with 130K miles on it.

Ok so far I did most of the maintenance that the Tech guide told me to do. Now it's coming down to spark plugs and wires. Which plugs and wires would you recommend? I used to own a honda and iridium spark plugs were pretty nice but now this isn't a honda but instead it's a dsm. I appreciate all the help from everyone.

also where can I purchase the spark plugs and wires would be great as well.

NGK plugs and wires are great. You can get them from the stealership or many online sites. I know importpoweronline.com has them, I believe roadraceengineering.com has them and I'm pretty sure MachV.com has them.

Another question. Anyone know where I can ger OEM parts from before going to the stealership? I'm looking for factory visors, and sunroof clips cause my sunroof won't lock. Plus I think I need to redo my headliner since its hanging right now.

Salage yards are the best place for interior things, I have found. I got the visors and clips for my 90 GST for like $10. On the headliner, go to a fabric store and by some decently thick material, nothing heavy. I believe I bought 5 feet of material, but 2 yards never hurt anyone, it's not like it is expensive. Buy some 3M Adhesive Spray (expensive but the best there is), and you are on your way. I've done a headliner for every DSM I've owned (so four, 1 without a sunroof), and that is the way I did it. Make sure you scrape with like a wire brush the cardboard the headliner attaches to, before you put on any adhesive, to get all the residue from old glue and headliner material off. Good luck man.

OMG i can't wait till Wednesday cause it should be the day I actually get to drive the car. It's been in my friend's shop for maintanence while the title is under his name. I'm getting the title transferred this Wednesday. Project car here we go :D
