If anyone out there has tried this; How hard is it to fit an EVO V Intercoler, and how much of a difference did it make?

Um? it will discharge all of the air no matter where it is placed, not just the hot air.GSX said:What's wrong with the BOV placement, I have something similar except mine is mounted on the hotside as to not discharge cooled air. Just wondering what your thoughts are?
Thanks.

Agreed. Besides the pipe setup on the car in the first picture looks pretty good.blcknspo0ln said:Simple. Evo 8 FMIC > stock SMIC. What's there not to understand? Not everyone wants a huge FMIC to support their 16G when an Evo 8 FMIC will do the job for half the cost.
Stapl3 said:Sure.
After the throttle plate closes, pressure would have to build up that far through the piping in order for the valve to open. The farther back the bov is, the slower it would be venting the excess pressure. Pressure spikes begin a few inches before the TB, so thats the optimal placement.
Having yours on the hot side of the intercooler you have to wait even longer for the air to build up all the way through the piping and intercooler, then to open the BOV and escape. Form your own opinion on if this is ok or not.
Any real race car I've seen has had the BOV near the TB. I figure they've done all the real science and real life testing on the topic.
Um? An evo core isn't inefficient with a 16g. Its also oem quality so you know it will last forever. Just because you are cheap doesn't mean you should say that it doesn't perform.PieEyedPiper said:In light of the ebay FMIC kit that seems to rock our collective socks, I'd say $350 is steep if you still have to aquire the core. You're almost doubling the price for half the performance.
There's more to consider than just the size of the core. Like how much air it can actually flow, pressure drop, and efficiency.JayRolla said:The ebay kit is cheaper and has a larger core. What can the evo8 core hold 350whp max.
Here's a link to Pruven's page on that. Of course, it's coming from someone who wants to sell you something, so get those grains of salt ready.Stapl3 said:Pruven tested the Evo 8 FMIC.
"The factory intercooler on the Evolution is good for about 285 wheel hp"

So basically it's junk. And don't bother posting people that made more than that with it, I don't care. I'll just reply with links to people running 10's on stock engines and 14b's.

I don't see how 350 dollar piping kits for a poor FMIC can compete with complete kits on eBay that perform better for less money.

I would also like to see finished pics.
Rice Over Wheat said:Intercoolers aren't exactly high tech. I couldn't possibly see paying $350 just for the piping for a fmic that small. 16G might be good for now, until it feels too slow for you like it inevitably will, and then you'll outgrow it with any higher flowing turbo.
I don't think a stock piece is anything to be impressed by.
