I recently purchased a 1998 Eclipse Gst no mods for 700$.
It has 177.xxx miles and sometimes it idles as low as 300 rpm. I pulled off the mass air flow sensor to see if that was dirty but clean as a whistle.:) Just curious of what i should look out for and how to keep this car running great.

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

Check your throttle body to see if it's dirty; also I would check all belts for wear, especially timing belt.

98 GST with a 420a?? I don't think they ever made a GST with a 420a. Anyways if you have a gsT then try 9(with car off) unplug your IAC and start the car and let it run and warm up. Cut it off plug it back up and drive it alil. As strange as that sounds it has worked for me before when I had same problem. Also second time it happened to me I actually drove it out. It went away after a few days of driving. THough it would be good to check it over for any vacuum leaks. Get a can of brake cleaner and spray around your intake gaskets and see if it changes the revs or cuts it off. Also you can try letting it idle press the a/c button to on with fan off and then turn the fan on one notch and if the revs have no change then your IAC isn't working. Whether or not your a/c actually works doesn't make a difference. I don't even have a belt on mine and it changes my revs. Just so long as the the compressor is plugged up it should work. Also with buying any used car its always good to do an oil change, and just as good to do plugs wires and fuel filter.
EDIT: Also do the timing belt and water pump. Don't want to be doing down the road after all your maintenance and "SNAP" there goes a grand LOL
