How to Identify an EPROM ECU [Merged 5-9]

Since I sold the ecu to the original poster come to find out the ECU was from a Japanese Eclipse.

So all the settings on the ecu were exactly the same as USDM ecu's?

The ECU is most likely exactly the same.

The Eprom's image(software) probably doesn't have all the emissions crap USDMs have.

I know people with Euro and South American ECUs, have used USDM eprom images with no problems.

Did you copy the image off the eprom?
Yeah, contact me offline for a copy. I can't attach it here.

Any idea which market it was made for?
Given the Japanese writing on the case, I'm going to assume JDM. EDIT: Although google seems to suggest EDM. So I guess I don't know for sure either way. EDIT2: More searching really makes me think EDM. I see no reference to it being JDM, but I do see multiple references to it being EDM. I guess EDM wins.

OK, I took a quick look at the code. This isn't OBDII and it isn't just "regular" MUT either. It uses an additional interrupt vector, seemingly related to UART communication, not used by the USDM 2G code. But that's about as far as I feel like digging into it at the moment.

Actually, looking again, this may be "regular" MUT after all. I still don't fully understand that extra interrupt vector yet, though. It seems to be doing a sort of fixed-data, frame-based transmit to something, but I have no idea what.

OK, seriously, I have to stop looking at this now. :) It's too distracting.

I found an ECU from a 95 awd TSI at the junkyard. It has an E on the bottom right hand corner of the board on the chip does this make it EPROM for sure? Ive read a little on the topic and i know you can run numbers and such but if there is an E this makes it an EPROM right?

If you are looking at the outer cover and it has an "E" it means it is probably an EPROM ECU, but you can't be completely certain, you have to take the cover off (its only 4 tiny screws) and check it yourself.

If you are looking at the board itself, and your ECU looks like the EPROM ECU from this link: EPROM ID, then you have an EPROM.

even better find considering the car is only a 2 previous owner and I payed 500 for it with around 130k. (yes I addressed the crankwalk issue) its an auto... and It did have a shelled transfer case and bad fuel pump. But considering ive only put about $800 into it I think ive found a diamond in the rough.

The motor runs great and besides the bunk ass paint job the car is in pretty good mechanical condition for an awd :D

**EDIT the ECU that is EPROM is actually in my car.. I meant I went to a salvage yard and found and ECU and when I pulled mine found it was EPROM. I thought I had ECU problems because of the car running rich.. I smelled lots of exhaust but this was the problem was the turbo flange bolts were loose one was about to fall out I posted pics in my "MAF problems" thread.

Ok this kid has a ad up for a supposed eprom and he gave me the numbers on it and i was wondering if someone can help me

and on the side it says

if anyone can please get back to me soon thanks

ask for pictures of the board with the case opened to know for sure... i can put an NT ecu in an eprom case and sell it if i wanted to... i mean the buyer would be pissed... but if you base it just off case numbers this is a gamble you're taking.

On a 90 ECU the fact that there is a letter (A in this case) in the lower right and at the end of the E2T number indicates that the case was not from a EPROM ECU.

What board might be inside I can't say. If the ECU is original and matching then it won't be an EPROM.

I took out my ecu this morning to check if it was eprom It has a E at the beginning on the cover and the original void warranty stickers were still on it uncut. It was the ecu that came with the car I have a 1992.5 6bolt.

heres a pic can anyone confirm its a eprom ecu for my piece of mind?

Thanks
