Congrats on your purchase. This is a great site to find invaluable information for the DSM.

Please see the link below for eprom identification.
    https://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/epromid

If you have one, you will need to have it "socketed" so the flash module can be changed. You may want to check out the rest of the ECMTuning site to get an understanding of how an eprom ecu is used.

In stock form, the non-eprom ecu's programming cannot be changed/modified. If you are wanting to use the stock ecu for tuning purposes, you will be after an eprom ecu. The eprom ecu itself is not "tunable" without modification (socketing).

Another option is the black box ecu found in 98-99 GS-T/GSX models. Unlike the 95-97 ecu's, this one can be reflashed using ECUFlash (and correct cables). Information about this ecu can be found here:
    https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/first-flashed-dsm-ecu-98-99-flashing-faq.338754/

If you are looking to get a tune, you may want to check out local tuners to you and check to see what they can/prefer to tune with. ECMLink is considered the most user-friendly option.

If it’s a stock 97 ecu then it definitely is not a eprom ecu nor is it programmable
