Have a '93 Laser RS-t That unbeknownst to me until recently, has a 2G7 bolt bottom end. Head and Manual Trans I believe are 1G. Has anyone tried to drill the block for the 1G manual roll stop? Wondering how deep to drill and thread pitch/size.

That’s my dilemma. Dude used a 1g manual trans.

The bosses are in the block, just not drilled.

1G (thanks, @1990TSIAWDTALON )
The two bolts at bottom left of the block would be for the roll stop.

I’ve read that people have fabricated a mount for this situation but I’ve never seen what that fabbed mount looks like or how it attaches. Related thread.

This would be on the front side of the block. The bosses are there for the front roll stop that bolts to that bar that runs from like the radiator support, under the engine to the back.

Pics please. The pics posted are of the front side and no bosses on a 2g.

Also here to confirm the 2g block does NOT have the bosses.

Are you sure that you have a 2g 7 bolt block? Maybe you actually have a 1g 7 bolt block. Perhaps the previous owner just didn't install the front engine mount bracket for some reason. What about rear?

That might be the case. I know the bottom of the oil pump is curved slightly and not flat. There are two bosses where the front roll stop looks like it would bolt to. The rear roll stop is there and I changed that mount. The trans doesn’t have any provision for a front mounted roll stop. I’ll try to get som pics up, but it’s tight.

I have never had a 1g 7 bolt in my shop but that is a very good point 👉 @jdxnc

Wasn't able to get pics tonight. I was informed that my wife's Jeep was 3 months overdue for inspection and the MIL lamp was on. So I spent the evening smoking out and fixing evap leaks and doing a drive cycle.😞🤬

You are aware a 1g trans doesnt have any provisions for a roll stop.

Your car is a 93, which originally came with a 7 bolt block.
Besides the engine mount bracket boss, if it's a 1g 7 bolt, it has the 1g timing components (tensioner arm and tensioner pulley) and 1g water pump. If it's a 2g 7 bolt, it has the 2g timing components and the 2g water pump. You can distinguish with that too.

So here is the best pictures I could get, shedding the least amount of blood. The first is just a shot of where the front roll stop should be, The second is an upside down shot of that area of the block. I see the bolt sticking out of the trans too. What the hell did this kid do to this car?!

Looks like the 90 Talon parts car was a good investment after all. Except for the fact that the first time I got it to run it sounded like it was eating itself.
