Hello, kids. Here is the Official AWD or FWD? thread. All the hare-brained arguments about "rolling starts" and "top speed" and "deadly transfer cases" and "drivetrain losses" and the rest of the mis-guided "better" advice is right here.

It's recommended you just skip reading it. You already know which you want, and why. Still, it's a place to dump it all.

Let's start with this fine opener from 2002 (it really doesn't get much better):

newbie to DSMs here, whats AWD and FWD. just sold my civic hatchback and got my eclipse not to long ago and im still learing the dsm101 stuff.

I went from a 1g FWD (1.8L) to a 1g AWD

Actually I can't really say that, As I still own the 1.8 :p

Same here, but I sold my 1.8l because it was breaking more than my GSX.

I have seen one guy go from AWD, to FWD, then regret it and sell his AWD for a FWD.

But only one.

We're the opposite, my talon is broke, and I don't want to get rid of the 1.8 just yet.

My 1.8l was having problems left and right, so I sold it to some kid who thought "The system was awesome"

Best $1100 I ever made.

Things gone wrong wiht my GSX:
Brakes had something get cought and scraped my rotor, had to get a new one. Not the cars fault.
Clutch line broke, had to get it repaired, no big deal.
ABS Hydro-pump went out. $900 to fix, so I told them to shut it off..no more ABS, no big deal.

And thats it. :thumb:

I went from a 98GS (yes i know big mistake), in 98 and later in 03 bought my 99GSX. Both are now in DSM heaven but were replaced by a 91 G VR-4, and hopefully by the end of the year my cash flow will improve so I can get an EVO 8 to join it in my driveway. :thumb:

i use to have a 98 GS-T..

then sold it and got my now 95 GSX

when i had the GS-T.. it always crossed my mind that it wasnt a GSX.. it bothered me.. esp with what my needs and expectations where for a car.. i NEEDED AWD..

do i regret it? of course not.. AWD is great.. the only thing i miss was how prestine and reliable my 98 GS-T was..

i wouldnt mind having a GS-T if i had a GSX a long side with it.. for a short period of time i had both.. unfortunately couldnt afford to keep both..

I went from a 2g gst to a 2g gsx. I love the awd so much. I never could stand the wheel hop issues with fwd..it was a spyder though. Anyway, go awd, you wont regret it. -Matt :thumb:

Running to the bank tomorrow to see if I can get myself a loan $6800 to pick up this gorgious 1997 TSi AWD with 85K miles.I thought I would never consider gettin rid of my car for anything...but for this I would.Switch over the parts and sell my other car stock. What do ya think?AWD :thumb:

Get an awd and have the diff welded or if you got cash buy a built trans or a VCE. And you can roll awd or fwd whenever you decide. I am welded and awd is great for racin and fwd is great for racin too. Best of both worlds.

No way, tampering with the beauty of a 97-98 talon front bumper is worth a trip to hell :|Ofcourse a front mount will peek out from underneath though...Im looking to do a white version of DSMJims car...ahhh*Droolz
