Have any of you 2g guys done the 2g Knock sensor LED mod that is on VFAQ. Does it work well, and does it matter if you are using a MBC with it?

knock sensor led is pointless, i have read countless stories of ppl covering it with tape.

thats whats I was thinking because the guy said he had to reset the ecu to turn the light off once it went on.

Yea, its a pointless mod...that stupid blinking gets very annoying after awhile, especially at night. It only helped once when I was getting detonation on the highway and my logger was dead. It cut my boost down to like 12psi for a day and had the LED solidly illuminated.

BTW that was with the stock BCS, if you have an aftermarket one, both the BCS and the light are pretty much pointless.

As stated I did the knock sensor led mod. Wired it via vfaq. Tapped into orange wire with an led from radio shack with built in resistor. Worked fine for about a week and a half. Now the led is always on. Anybody have any ideas as too why? I have the free mods done and still running stock boostlight up when I started the car as described in the vfaq and when I shut the car off. Led never came on when I boosted before. This has got me stumpped.

Try a new resistor.

Better, go down about half this page:

http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-problems.htm#knockLEDflashing

Read this paragraph twice:
"Despite it's[sic] name, the 'knock LED' DOES NOT MEASURE KNOCK. [Doubters take heed: it DOES NOT.] All the LED is doing is informing you when the boost control solenoid has been tripped by the ECU. This has only the vaguest relation to knock, as there are many other non-knock circumstances that will cause the BCS to trip. This quite possibly gives the 'knock LED' the distinction of being the worst-named modification in the history of DSMs. "

And take that crap back out of your car.

Hm I see, thanks for the info guys, going to disconect it later.

usually that light will stay on solid when the computer has seen a lot of knock. try resetting the ecu before you yank it out and see if it stops staying lit.

That site confused the hell outta me, it's probably a project hooking it up to a 1g...I might order the ebay one, it's only $40

They're a waste of time, but knock yourself out:

What is a 'knock LED'?
I am running [x] PSI on my car, and my knock LED flashes! Is my setup ok?
My knock LED flashes all the time! Is there a fix?
My knock LED flashes all the time! Did I screw up my engine?

A 'knock LED' is a light wired up to the boost control solenoid (BCS) on the engine. The short answers to the other three questions are: Probably, no, and probably not.

Despite it's name, the 'knock LED' DOES NOT MEASURE KNOCK.

For details on this, read Todd Day's explanation of the subject here (he is the "talon mgr"). You can also read a complete explanation of the BCS operation in this issue of the Diagnostic Port from Technomotive, the DSM Knock Sensor site, and the 2G Knock LED FAQ by Warren Tsai. If you have problems with these links, use the results of this search.

About the only time that you can be certain the 'knock LED' is reporting knock is when it is solidly on. This indicates a last-ditch attempt by the ECU to limit boost, which can only occur when the engine is knocking for prolonged periods of time.

The LED will also flash when the ECU is attempting to limit the turbo boost (1G and 2G cars); when the ECU is "smoothing" out the normal turbo operation (2Gs); and when the car is first started and the ECU transitions the solenoid from fully closed to fully open (all turbo cars). These occurances are perfectly normal and not cause for concern.

As for the question of whether or not your engine is ok, you will only know that by looking at the operational setup and the circumstances under which you believe you may have damaged the engine. If you have been following the typical guidelines for upgrading your engine, you are probably fine. If you have upgraded your engine past the recommended guidelines or had some catastrophic event occur, your engine may be damaged. In real terms, 99% of people who are concerned about their knock LED flashing have absolutely nothing to worry about.

The Last Word: Anyone who actually takes the time to put in a "knock LED" by now is wasting their time. Not that it was ever really useful to begin with. "

What about the one that I am using? It uses it's own knocksensor not a signal from the solenoid.

Edit: Just looked at the ebay one again and it uses a knocksensor not a signal fron the BCS

Which one are you using? Yeah I also noticed it uses knocksensor readings.

I am not using a logger in the sense of a palm pilot but software that comes with the Megasquirt-MegaLogViewer, dont know how its working yet bc I cannot find a place to mount my sensor! Which sucks bc I found two holes in my block with thread but the bolt that goes in there is bigger than the hole in my knock sensor so I am not sure. But this knock unit works with the megasquirt and can cut timing etc. when knock occurs.
