I have a choice between weisco and eagles for 700 and arias and eagles for 800.

My questions are as follows.

From a reputable souce to run weisco pistons you need a .003 tolerance with JE you need .004 and with Ross you need around .005.

He mentioned nothing or arias pistons. I don't know tha much about thema and a search on here did nothing for technical inquiries.

Please post personal experiance with arias pistons and weisoc pistons. 9:1 compression on a turbo motor with a 20g. If you don't have personal with this setup please.

I was told forged pistons tend to get piston slap more than a cast piston becasue when cold there ther pistons tolerance is set more than a cast piston because of heat expansion. I know both of these pistons are high quality and people have done very well on both pistons. Thanks for you comments

Brian,

Again thanks for the awesome support in this thread.

I have a question for you. What is your opinion of the higher wrist pin location on the stroker pistons vs stock pin height? Also what are the gains/losses when using a lighter piston?

Thank you.

I could probably add one oversize pretty easily to the k548 series so guys could bore their blocks, but I'm not sure how many people out there would like 9.3:1 w/ standard gasket and a 47cc head, but then again I've heard the 4g64 cylinder head volume is greater than the standard 4g63. I'd love to get my hands on the cc number of a 4g64 head for our database.

Brian,
Per the NHRA, 68.8cc, http://nhra.com/tech_specs/engine/blueprints/MITS-91T.rtf If I get bored I'll try to verify this with a head I have. It is definitely larger than a 4G63 head, hence the super high CR I got when I put a 4G63 head on a stock 4G64 engine. Looks like I'll have to buy a set of Wiseco's for it...any discount for my research? Wanna sponsor my truck? :p

I got a good deal on them. Lets say got them cheaper then Ross. I havent seen alot about them. Surley somebody else is running them. Obvisouly im doing a rebuild. They are 30 over pistons. I dont think my motor needs that much bored out. However like i said, got them for a good price. Im just hesitant about putting them in for the fact that i cant find much info about them.

Please let me hear you comments and HOPEFULLY reviews. Possible sugestions.

Thanks,

Arias makes good pistons. Just check some of the tuner shops on this site to see what kind of pistons they use in the different stages of engines they build. It is always good to get ideas/assurance from the shops that build the monster motors. They also usually give hp figures on piston/rod combos. Check em out, you should be pleased. Good luck on the rebuild.

**yeah, just checked Slowboy's site and they offer Arias 8.8 pistons as a $100 upgrade on their Stage III (highest) 2.0 shortblocks. If they trust em in their 600hp engines, you should be just fine.**

Arias = Wrong alloy...

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111079&highlight=Arias+wiseco

The 2618 alloy is the alloy of choice for boost/nitrous as it's temperature/strength characteristics are much better than 4032. The floating silicon particles in 4032 make it "porous" in effect. When a failure ccurs w/ a 4032 piston, it's pretty spectacular. 4032 will turn into a pile of shrapnel versus the 2618 alloy which "wads up" like taffy. The downside to using 2618 is this: because it lacks silicon-it get's shiny and scratches easier due to foreign material in the crankcase. It's an esthetic issue, but one that should be dealt with if possible. Wiseco added a basic (break-in) dry film lubricant to all stocking sport compact pistons as of Jan.2004 to help combat this.

Awesome pistons. We used them when we changed my firends duaghters motor setup up. She ended up cracking the block and blowing freeze plugs like it was cool. So we got another 7 bolt and started from scratch. She previuosly had an eagle/ross combo. We reused the eagle rods and went through all the proper precuations to hang them on the eagle rods.

These pistons were intended for our race car. We had both the 6 bolt and 7 bolt back from the machine shop, but seems as this is her daily driver, her car was the priority. So we grabbed the pistons from the race car and finished her block. She has an SCM6152. With the new build she laid down 530awhp on 105 octane. And she drives it eveyday to high school.

We had great luck with the pistons. We thought we would give some CP pistons a try for the race car. They weigh 260g a piece. So far they haven't disappointed us either. But a lot of research went into the Arias pistons. I will stand behind them.

Look at what most of the Toyota Supra guys run. Look at what all the major horsepower/drag hondas run. Outstanding piston. I will be running these in my 2G 7 bolt build up before long. Only if the stock motor lets go. 460awhp and still climbing.

We got our Arias pistons form Arias at en excellent price as well. Great customer service.

Thanks guys. That makes me feel better about using them. More of a piece of mind thing ya know? I really cant wait to get the talon running. My history with DSMs hasnt been pretty. Started like this...

1.91 1.8 Laser Sold for GSX
2.90 GSX Blew motor from bad turbo install (i now do all my own work)
3.92 TSI AWD (TB went, had parts to do swap in my hatch)
4.93 Talon FWD. Timing belt went (parts car)
5. 92 TSIAWD (bought this one with a bad motor to start with) This way i know exatcly what it has in it.

Hopefully it goes to the machine shop in the next week or so.

Arias has a good reputation but I think wiseco has more options, better pricing and more dohc & turbo experience.

To put it another way, I just got a piston back from a DSM customer that put down 820hp to the wheels. It's got our stock pin, the xx ring pack, the same thickness and the same forging etc. as our normal parts. It could be put back in the engine and run again if needed. We've got a 2jz toyota guy putting down 1200 to the wheels w/ our shelf stock kit. If you saw our pistons in the AEM car of Papadakis that set the record at 209mph, you won't find any significant changes except a wrist pin upgrade

its like a buick red or something i got it at the local auto parts store i wanted to do something different i always see black blocks and my car is red so here we go!! plus easier to find oil leaks LOL. the block was bored out and then he lined honed it to clean it up. i kinda have a cheap camera so it might be the flash

I found a pair of arias pistons for pretty good price and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these?

im jacking my own thread i got everything back from the machine shop today heres how far i got

We have lots of experience with Arias Pistons. We have just started using them in our
4G63's, so I don't have any data right now. They did power our Toyota to 7.55@181mph after having them in for 25+ passes. Good stuff!!!
