I was just wondering how hard it would be to convert my 1999 GST into an AWD GSX or if its even possible. What all do I need to swap and how hard is it?

We did answer your question, you just don't want to hear the answer.

I believe Road Race Engineering has done this a few times. I believe the cost was somewhere in the Neighborhood of 10k after it was all said and done.

Keep in mind that you quoted a post that is going on 7 years old. Back then, a clean 2G retailed for over $12K, so naturally, the parts to do the swap costed more as well. Not to mention the shop's labor rate...

i have a few questions about a swap for my spyder gst. i would like to swap my 99 gst spyder to awd in the future and the perfect opurtunity has dropped into my lap. i foud a gsx with a blown motor. It is a full car except for the blown evo 9 motor. so it has everyhing i need except an awd manual transmisson. so this would be my plan. pick up the car and swap it out. i have the space to do this. then i could bolt up my gst's gas tank, suspension and tranny with it. so then i could sell that car only needing a new motor. what i nee to know is what are the problems with this swap? is there anything i need to know? he is asking 2,000 for the car but i would low ball down to 1000-1500. does my gst motor mount up to the awd gsx tranny ok? will it being a spyder hurt anything? i know i would need a different flywheel and a clutch, anything else? thanks for any imput.

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but did you read the link that was in the first post? It has a list of everything you'll need to do the swap. Your GS-T motor will work fine with the GSX tranny, it's no different than a GS-t coupe. You can't use your gas tank, you have to use one from the GSX. And how did the owner of the GSX fit an EVO 9 motor in it? That motor won't fit in a 4g63 equipped DSM without MAJOR fabrication.

3" turbo back Exhuast from 1991 Talon
1991 Talon Gas Tank w/ Walbro 255 LPH Fuel pump in it.

So Basically I want to know if the 1st gen stuff would be swappable with 2nd gen stuff or does the subframe change dramatically between the generations? If it is possible I will convert my car to AWD if not I will sell this stuff and get a rebuilt FWD tranny.

Definitely not swappable. You need 2D AWD stuff.

Thats what I was afraid of. I have literally never seen a GSX where I live. They just don't exist.

I had to go out of state to get my GST.

Loads and Loads and Loads of 1g cars. Every 2g is an RS or GS with the occasional GST. Very Seldom though.

I've never seen it done. Though it would be completely pointless to bother with fabricating everything to make it work when there is an afforable bolt-on solution.

ok i dont know if this is the right place to ask this but i need to know. i want to do the swap on my 97 m/t eclipse. i have a 96 awd a/t talon laying around with no engine tranny and is far from running condition. i have all the parts for the swap except the transmission. my question is can i use the trasfercase or is there a differece in auto and manual transfercases? and will i need a 97-99 m/t trans or will any trans form 95-99 work?

Indeed. The 1G parts are much more abundant in my area, so being able to use 1G parts would be nice.

No, it does not. The chassis' are different between the 1G FWD and AWD cars. So, the drivetrtain parts aren't easily swappable like they are on 2G cars.

I love AWD. No drawbacks other than a bit of labor.
No, I don't wish I would have bought anything else instead of what I built. It was a great learning experience to boot.

No, you can't use anything relating to the rear drivetrain or suspension from a 1G on your 2G.
