After a 5500 stutterbox launch the other night, my car died. I fired her back up and she sounded like she had no oil in her and made a very loud valve tapping sounds. I detected the sound to becoming from the intake side of the head under the valve cover. After driving 75 miles home (still good) I pulled the valve cover off and verified my suspicions. I found a piece of black hard plastic UNDER my intake cam between the valve springs. The plastic was just floating around in the head and no doubt causing the loud lifter/valve tapping sound. After removing the plastic, the car fired up and the tapping is gone!
However, I have now triggered a CEL and have no time to check it right now. I lost the piece (go me
) so I can't even take a picture of it. My suspicions are (being a 95 motor) that the CAS has broken.
Anyone else know what would cause a piece of plastic to emerge in my head? Anyone have a picture of what a 95-96 CAS looks like?
