Exhaust Cut-out [Merged 8-9] cut out bypass

I don't see why you couldn't put a switch under the gas pedal to open it up. These are things that could be optional as extras, "for an extra $10 with your order, you can add a switch to automatically open your cutout at WOT!"

yea i seen that before. it basically has a wastegate actuator hooked up to a pressure source to open and close the flapper. . . ingenious really.

As for the inline quicktime, also a great idea. I do agree that the holes should be a szie that would offer the same amount of flow a 2" exhaust system would.

I think that is pretty innovative honestly. You will have easy daily drivability, good gas mileage and super quite exhaust. What we all really want when were not at WOT. Then flip the switch when you wanna go fast and away you go.

Just wait until the eBay losers get all over this.

but those are the reason i run my qtec where my cat goes, closed its stock exaust, open its open dp, i get the best of both worlds

That setup is somewhat complicated.. I dont see why you just dont get a 3inch DP, 2.5 inch exhaust and put the QTP branching off your test pipe or before the cat, whichever you have, like it was intended for. Youll have a nice 2.5inch muffled exhaust for cruising around town and when you need the extra flow flip the switch and your running open DP.

As far as the whole inspection thing I know atleast 20 people personally who run them all year round including myself. As long you dont have it uncapped when you go down to get your sticker youll be fine... 9 times out of 10 they wont find it

Um, it's a huge Y-pipe welded into your exhaust, obviously to bypass emissions equipment. How can they not see it?

what about having a 3inch downpipe into duel 2.5 exhaust pipes. 1 will have a cutout installed and one wont. that way when u want things a little quieter you only have 1 opened but still enough flow and when you want power open up the 2nd side? just woke up so if this doesnt make sense please correct me.

It should work. whether or not you want to spend that much effort to make that work is another question.

1. Boosting with the cutout closed won't "cook" your turbo.

2. You won't cook your valves.

3. The motor does not detonate even if tuned for the cutout being open and boosting with it closed.

4. If you have half a brain and don't mind making sure the assembly is working correctly their are NO reliabilty issues to speak of.

5. The electric motors don't fail due to heat or thermal shock.

6. The "wastegate" actuated cutout is a great idea, but with the full exhaust intact (like my car) you will increase boost threshold by 1000rpm's which absoutley KILLS acceleration.

7. My cutout passed both inspection and emissions in pennsylvania.

Any more questions. If nobody has caught on I've been running one for awhile now. I'm speaking from first hand experience, not second hand rumors.

See, this is great my car is registered in PA and I will need to pass a visual inspection. I wanted to get the QTEC cut ou with the Y-Pipe welded onto a 3" DP that would follow a 3" high flow cat and also a 3" Cat-back. I am not sure why the people above were worried about backpressure but I am not a "wisemen" when it comes to DSM's. I think it's a great idea and definatley want to purchase the electric cut-out. I am hearing more good reviews/options then bad ones. The good ones are coming from tuners who have actually experienced or own the product while the others are "assumptions". Anymore feedback would help me out also becuase I am definately considering this product.

, that "idiot" you're reffering to is one of the dsm pump gas elites. If you look at his site http://www.twingles.com/ideck/ he's dynoed 503awhp on 93 oct (2.0L 6bolt). I think he knows what he's doing or at least thought about the negatives before doing the cutout

If I'm going to bother installing a cutout in my car I'll just have a stockish setup for exhaust then the cutout after the downpipe venting to the air. Cover your ears!

I have to agree that this is probably not the greatest idea. It brings to mind how motors get killed by clogged cats...

On my car, I have a 2.5" DP connected to the stock exhaust, and a cutout on the 1st bend of the downpipe. IMO if you're going to use a cutout, save the money you're going to spend on a big exhaust. A 3" turbo back with a cutout would be quite a bit more money with not much gain. A stock exhaust with a cutout would be $200 well spent. As far as dyno numbers go, I don't have any, but I do log a 3-4lb/min of airflow increase over the stock exhaust.

And cover your ears is right! With the cutout open at WOT, it hurts my ears to drive by other cars because of the sound reflecting back. I can finally beat harleys for pure sound volume .

Okay, so I have a 3" full exhaust and was wondering if I should get the same electric cut out. Are you saying it's pointless to get and not much gain what so ever? If the numbers don't prove worthy (at least +5HP gain) then I won't bother for the "sound".

The 3 to 4 pounds per minute gain that Jehu got is closer to 30 to 40 HP gain.

Yes, but that's over the stock exhaust...Over my 2.5"DPTP3"CB, it's probably ~1 lb/min difference. If you already have a 3" turboback, I don't think it's a very worthwhile upgrade. If you sell the catback etc, put on the stock exhaust and get the cutout, then you're getting back into the situation where it makes sense to use a cutout .
