Exhaust Cut-out [Merged 8-9] cut out bypass

I would at least get a 2.5 inch downpipe, or a 3in. You don't really need a full exhaust unless you want it. It only takes 1 1/2 for the vavle to open completely.

1.you have a quiet exhaust
2.at least 10whp if not way more depending on your set-up
3.Can't get ticketed by cops for noise violation.
4.your ass end looks sleeper, and everyone will say why does he have all these upgrades with a stock exhaust.

5.etc.

These are just some of the plus's of a cut-out.

thats the most true thing ive seen all day, everyone asks me why im so quick with stock exhaust

Plus it's much cheaper right? I've been wanting an exhaust but I like my stock. I just wanted one for performance.

I asked this once before and this is the response I got.

"The cut out will give you performance at the push of a button or turn of a lever. It is a nice way to look all stock and stuff and then rip em a new hole when it is open. I don't really see them as too practical for a daily driver since your car will be tuned for the cut out to be open or closed, not for both. Unless you can switch tuning maps at the push of a button. "

They suggested it wouldn't be good because my car would be tuned for only one way, not both. What do you guys think?

Getting a cutout would be much cheaper and I wouldn't have to worry about to loud tickets or anything like that.

I was going to go w/ a 2.5" downpipe and 3" exhaust. If I go with this I'll just get the 2" downpipe.

get the cut out, and the afc 2 has two savable settings so youre good to go, no need to waste money on a whole exhaust

what in the world do you need to set with your afc?

Very good info guys...thanks a lot.

However, how much of a power difference do you think there would be between stock DP and cutout or 2.5 aftermarket + cutout? 1badtsi did you notice any loss of power between your 3 in. turboback and the stock DP+cutout?

I've heard that places in the stock DP are as narrow as 1-7/8 in. at the bend, and it seems this could severely affect performance. But I have no experience with it, so I'm asking ;)

I would suggest a 2.5" DP + cutout. Like you stated, the DP has some pretty tight bends that can be restrictive, even if there's an open dump right after it.

Otherwise, you can flange a cutout right after the O2 housing. ;) :thumb:

ok, i got my cut out back and tried it out, with it closed, there is NO difference from stock, in sound or performance, wide open, it has to be at least 20+hp and ALOT more top end pull, cruising around town i decided to cruise with it just barely open so i have the sound of an exaust :D , oh, and right now im venting so when i blow off with it open i kick a nice sexy cloud of black smoke out the passenger side of the car :thumb:

has anyone used the e-cutout or heard of it? i am thinking of buying it and was wondering if it would work on a turbo car by reducing lag because of less? backpressure :thumb:

That cutout will eventually leak. Just about everyone I know with a cutout of that design has problems with leaks. I don't know how to find it but there is a cutout out there that has a long flat door that slides over the entire opening and makes sure there is a proper seal. It was featured on "Trucks" on spike TV. I just can't remember the name of it to save my life.

Anyone know where to get a 2.5 inch cutout that is cable operated? I can only find 2" cutouts, like in jcwhitney. I can't find 2.5" cutouts. I can only find elecrtic cutouts I want a cable operated one.

I think summit racing has one.

Edit, never mind, theirs is a 2in.

I already know what cutout I want. I just can't find the right size. I need a 2.5" cable cutout. I don't want a electric cutout. I have already researched this. I want to be able to block the flow to the rest of my exhaust and have it all go out the cut out. Thats why I want a cable cut out with a swing door. But I don't know where to get a 2.5" one thats why I posted here cause maye someone else might have seen one somewhere.

Are you always this nice when your asking people for help? Probably not what your looking for but here it is anyway. There is one out there that operates like a pneumatic wastegate, even use a manual boost controller to operate it at what ever boost you want. Comes in 2.0", 2.25", 2.5", and 3.0". This one looks like a throttle body with a wastegate actuator driving it, just weld the straight pipe right in place of your testpipe, piece of cake.

saw one of these being advertised on espn2 just a few mintues ago. think it'd be pretty cool. for those of ya'll that don't know what this is, it's a valve that opens up so that exhaust doesn't get to the muffler. so less back pressure. nice for using at the track or whatever instead of having to drop half of the exhaust and all. just wondering if it'd fit on an awd car. i'd like to buy one and cut my test pipe and install it there. but dunno if it'd fit with the drive shaft and all. hmmm.....

there are alot of exaust cutouts
but that is the first one that i have seen with a butterfly valve

dunno how the others work. but like the fact that this one you can just sit in the car, flip a switch and it opens and closes. kinda reminds me of nos. horsepower by flipping a switch but it doesn't run out :thumb:

I ran the QT cutout on my old FWD. It worked well and never had any sealing issues. My only complaint was it took around 10 seconds to open and you have to hold the switch while it is doing so. I used a 3" o2 elim DP with the cutout welded to the end of it then I cut the stock catback so I could locate the cat after the cutout and use the stock catback.

anyone running one on an awd car? heard of anyone doing it at least? i have a full 3 inch hrc exhaust with test pipe. figured that if i cut the test pipe and weld it in there that it'd be the easiest. only concern is it hitting the drive shaft or the body. and the car is already kinda low so can't have it pointing towards the ground either unless i wanna scrape it all to heck.

We've kinda been there, done that.

You really could just make your own with a ebay butterfly valve and a motor from something like a windshield wiper.
