It's not like when you press "the button" it's gonna add that much power. When you press it, your car willl sound really bad and i bet the increase in performance wont even be noticeable. If you really want one get a manual one, for $30 all you have to do is just get under your car and undo a couple of wing nuts. Yeah being able to press a button is cool and all and might impress people riding in your car but defientley not worth the extra $100 IMO. That $100 could get you an FIPK, some gauges or a boost controller

ugh...with the camaro I gained 15 hp at the wheels...you tell me it wasn't a big gain...like I said, I don't know about these cars yet, but I bet it would help out.

Go ahead and build this exhaust. I'll make sure that Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox are there to help.
that would only work if he had a delorean.

Originally posted by Metasonici dont see what the point of a y pipe on an exhaust would be whne you could just get a 3" system. unless youre makin alotta power youre not gonna see much of a difference.
I kinda see the point. $135 to switch from stock exhaust to open dp instead of a few hundred for a 3" exhaust. The open dp will sound pretty bad, but if he really wants to save some $$$, it's an option

JC Whitney has a cable controled one for $25 it only fits up 2.25 in pipe so it would work with stock exhaust.

15 rwhp? i know someone that had one on a 3rd gen camaro and i think they told me there 1/4 time dropped like a tenth. not calling you a liar or anything just seems like a lot for a little piece of pipe that bypasses the exhaust line. Do you have it right after the headers or something? the person i knew had it right before the rear axle i think. I have no doubt it would help i just think the electronic part is a rip.

I was surprised to see that much of a gain too, but it was verified by 2 differant dyno's on 2 differant days...also I gained about 2.5 tenths...went from a 13.3 to a 13.0 with only changes being that and a new air filter...

as far as it being a rip, I am lazy, and don't like to get on my knees and crawling under the car to uncap a cutout, I enjoy being able to adjust it from inside the car, when I drive its open, when my fiancee gets in or another passanger who I want to talk to I close it (its really, really loud). I have it dumping before the rear axle, and when its open the whole car will shake from the sound.

Not to be an ass reviving this thread but I have a question..

If infact you did have a 3" cutout after a 3" dp, wouldn't you be able to gain more power (or run more boost per se) if your exhaust gasses exit quicker? Or would you just boost creep a hell of a lot more?

i am glad this came up... i have a cutout welded into my down pipe and i swear to god it is slow when it is open to went out the gas under the car... when it is closed and running thru the stock exhaust with just a muffler on it its alot faster... so check this out when i went birmingham i had my car dyno'd at 240 with the stock exhaust. after i installed a Buschur full 3 inch exhaust from downpipe to muffler it dyno'd 219 horsepower WTF? people say big exhausts are faster and better on turbo cars? Not mine! i know how everybody says open exhaust on a N/A car hurts the time and this is usualy true and people kept telling me on my turbo car it will only make it alot better... BS i think when you guys put the big exhaust on and its louder you think its faster because of the noise (im not flaming i thaught i was flying in my car with the cutout open till 1 day i was gettin into it and the cutout closed at full throttle and the tires started spinning... people give some input on this... wtf cuz i was lookin for the big gians you get from the exhaust :[

Here is a link to another company that sells a cutout.

newports01 - I would almost suspect that something else is wrong with with your car if you're getting less hp with a better flowing exhaust. It's just simple physics that the more air you can flow through the engine, the more power you should get out of it. Have you done any tuning to the car, or had someone else look at it? Perhaps your messing up the air/fuel ratio too much.

umm whats with people being negative about this thing? It's way cheaper and gives you the same or more performance than any cat back out there. Remember that the gas will flow best in open air...i cant see how any catback could come close to this.

I've seen a civic turbo with one of these and it was sweeeet!

you guys have the right idea.. but go get any car and put it on a dyno stock... then cut the exhaust off totaly and run it on a dyno,, less h/p.. read any 5.0 mag... 5.0 and fasts fords did 1 on mufflers and dynoed like 20 diff mufflers... all mufflers created more hp than wide open headers...

well i thought forced induction cars (ie ours) dont require any back pressure - ie the better/bigger the exahust is the better. I mean if you get a 3-4 in pipe (something you can roll a softball thru) , you might as well leave it open. Also their site dynoed a talon and it increased the output by 10 hp :)

Hmm, I would suppose it would sound really bad if you ran a cutout on a stock downpipe. Has anyone ever heard one with a 3" downpipe?

ive been looking at these for a while, or at least the cheap one from jcwhitney w/the cable. who cares what it sounds like, it you get the power then you should be happy, then once your done spanking that hondas ass or whatnot, close it back up and make'r nice and quiet. my 2cents

well thats just my experience with them... dont like it... plus the car sounds awfull i mean horible with them open... only time they sound good is when you leave it in gear and let off ;x

Correct me if I am wrong...

the 1970 GTO Judge had an option called the humbler exhaust, esentially 2 exhaust systems on one car. Flip a switch and it goes from one to the next. So you can have performance setup and street legal setups on the car at the same time so cops dont hassle you about the noise. Note that this option was only available for one year... they were prone to failure and I think the electronic cut out will have the same problem.

Just think about this. what if it breaks? You might be stuck runnin open downpipe cuz you hacked up the downpipe and cops will hassle you and nail you with sound pollution and emissions tickets until you can fix the problem. I wouldnt put one on my car but to each their own.

Just a little food for thought.

I don't have the 750 or so right now to buy a turbo back exhuast... Is there somewhere I can get a cutout that matches the stock exhaust size that I could weld in front of the cat? I want to have a cable underneath the seat that I could pull to activate the cutout when I want to race or go to the dragstrip, but still have the stock exhuast for everyday driving. My thought was to put like a handbrake undearth the seat that would operate the cable to the cutout. Any thoughts or suggestions on this setup? And where to find that correct size cutout...

It's just a bypass valve dumping the exhaust early.

Skip that.

You can DIY a system for well under 300.

Like around $200 if you go mild steel instead of ss.

Here's a pic of one, but this is too small, 2"... Can't seem to find a bigger setup like this. Exhaust gas will either vent out to the atmosphere, ie when the cutout is open with the cable pulled, or continue to the cat, ie when the cutout is closed...
