I run a hx35 on the street, very fun. I want to get a 2nd turbo that will put me around 900 when I go to the track without needing to spin past 8500.

Reccomendations?

My engine is built for 1k and I have a dogbox please keep this about the turbo only. I will break something when I upgrade but that's my problem to solve.

To my personal experience for drag racing in our cars you need to “spin” it past 8500
I feel like a 6466 would be a good turbo to make 900 hp

I spin my HX40 cars to 9000-9200. I am not at the 900hp mark but was in the mid 700s (only estimated, no dynos in my area so just an ECMLink guesstamate with a 20% reduction built in).
One car is an auto (9200) and one car is a stick (9000). Boost on the auto is a mild 32 and I run 38-40 on the stick car. They both could handle MORE boost.

Seems more as you need to look at goals over a horsepower number, and are you planning to switch turbos in and out when you go to the track or you mean you’re looking to move on from the hx35? What kind of time and trap speed are you looking for? On my buddys 1g we have seen as high as 893 at the wheels on the 6466 in an open .82ar v band housing at 52lbs of boost on a low reading Mustang dyno (in flat northeaster Ohio, not way above sea level before “experts” get their panties in a bunch) but in my opinion that’s irrelevant to drag times and trap speed as it’s primary purpose is a street car that gets taken to Akron (Akron Mexico that is) on weekends for highway shenanigans. I will say that result isn’t typical of the 6466, at least not in a .82ar housing, and that’s also tapped out giving all the 6466 has to give. I will say however for cruising around you can drive it anywhere, it’s in my eyes no means a lag monster and not a bore to drive around on the streets, spool actually feels similar to that along the lines of something like an hx40 or 35r.

I just want to get enough power that I can play with and have fun when i go to the track. While that's happening I will start improving other things on the car like tires, suspension, ect. which will improve my MPH and time but right now I don't have a specific goal.

I have done everything i can do get my engine and trans handling the power. Picking a strong turbo and growing the car around it until its time to upgrade from it a few years from now is what I want to do.
