Ok thanks, I could just make a switch in my dash board area to just ground that out. So is there a pin for it at the ecu of do I have to make one? Ceddy do you still have pins left for sale?

I also have just the pins themselves, for like $.50
But they need to be crimped and soldered to a wire.

You can put the switch where ever is convenient.

The Timing is configurable to what ever you want, so you can use it as an AntiLag button also, I'm going to hook mine up to a steering wheel with the extra buttons, for a AntiLag button.
 
Has anyone passed 100 flash limit?

I'm in the 200 - 225 range now. I often do 10+ flashes in a day when testing things out.

The 100 Flash thing is a Spec. The manufacturer has to design it to meet at least the minimum requirements.

Some of the Evo guys are in the 1000+ flashes range. There has not yet been one report of ecu failure from over flashing.

Evos have different ECU, but 200-225 flash range is great news indeed.
 
i wish this worked on the 97 ecu ever since you figured this out the cost of the 98 -99 ecus went through the roof. i have a 95 eprom but im more interested in flashing than chipping and link is to expensive

Since when do you need link to tune an EPROM ECU? A Moates Ostrich emulator with an EPROM ECU is great for tuning using TunerProRT. The last 99 GSX I sold, I put my EPROM ECU in so I could keep the reflashable ECU (I sold the original one from my car for $100 after buying my EPROM). Now I have another 95 GSX, so I'm sure that has an EPROM as well if I ever want to give that a try again. I'm about ready to give the 99 ECU a try, as I'm sick of the sucky idle control of the Evo ECU.

You can use ANY Mitsubishi ECU with the Ceddy Mod ROM if it meets the requisites:
-Must be from same year(98-99)
-Black and plastic
-Must start with MD______

Cars from which you can use the ECU:
-98-99 Mirage 1.5L
-98-99 Mirage LS 1.8L
-98-99 Montero

I have used them many times and they work
Their price is very cheap compared to Eclipse ECUs
You can get them for $50 on eBay

There is no excuse :nono:

ed_gst Thanks for the info, I was just seeing a similar discussion on evolutionm about intrepid ecus. If it weren't for the cost of a 2.0 cable I would pick up one of these lower cost ecus so that I could test both evo8 and H8 stuff on my car which I think would be sweet. I still might go to a 2.0 cable in spring and sell my 1.3 at which time I would play around with both. It all depends on how much money I have at that point and if I think I can make it worth my time tuning local cars and asking for donations (with kickback to Ceddy of course).
 
i didnt realize you could use the other ecus in the 2nd gen but it makes sense if your flashing the entire rom. also i was not aware that you could use the ostrich on the 95 ecus thought it was a 1st gen thing.thats interesting i have some experience with that my buddies talon ran that for awhile.
 
i was looking into an alternative to ECU's on EvoM and it appears that the 2000 3G eclipse also has the H8 ecu as well so it to may be flashable with the 2G rom

3G is V6 or I6, either way, it must have different layout because of spark and injector outputs.

Also, if you're using 98/99 ECU in 95/96 car, watch out for inverted CAS. In some cars like mine it was causing pretty bad knocking, so aside from coil pin swap you might need to apply some sort of CAS fix.

Also, I'd say you should look for PCB codes, if I understand correctly, supported so far are:
JE331B156C
JE331B156D

This isn't correct. A number of 3g cars came with I4s. 4g64 SOHC motors if you're at all curious. Those ecus should work just fine AND after 2000 they are flashable with a 1.3 cable so they may well actually be able to accept an earlier rom without need for a 2.0 cable. Maybe not though since they are different internally. They accept evo roms just fine so they are a source of evo8 ecus if anyone wants to go that way.

PCB Codes must match to be Flash compatible.
If they don't match, you will brick it and have an expensive paper weight.
(Don't ask how I know this)

H8 DSM Compatible
1998 -> JE331B156C
1999 -> JE331B156D
2000 -> Unknown, probably JE331B156E

2001+ are SH-2 like the Evos, not compatible with H8s.


Some ecus have minor differences.
Like the Spyder ecu I'm using.
Spyders have a Fuel Module that takes +5v.
GST/GSX have a Fuel Relay that Grounds +12v.
So I added a switch for the Fuel Relay.

Talking about software, would it be possible to use wideband O2 as O2 input for ECU (safety measure/smart adjuster)?

Is it in the realm of impossible/hard/doable, or simply unuseful?

The WB doesn't react fast enough for WOT Closed Loop.

Tephra has something similar for the Evo Mods.

Tephra has it so if AFR goes out of range it drops boost pressure for safety.

But we need to add Boost Control before we can drop boost.

There is still a relatively small number of people who post, get the instructions written and the rom out and you might find more people making noise about it.


As for using the wideband as a safety input I think it would be more useful to use it as a closed loop comp device to set AFRs at 15.2 instead of 14.7. Alternative to dropping the boost would be to switch to limited altmaps with conservative settings.

It's also possible to simply do fuel cut, I think VEMS did that. And that'll work with MBC setups.

But the problem getting WBO2 analog signal to work with ECU routines for expected NBO2 signals in closed loop could be tricky.

Either way, that was just an idea for a research, no pushin' :D

I too am interested in the speed density. What are some other idea out there that could be options that I may not know about?


What other mods can be useful? We can maybe take a vote and try to focus on common things we all wanna see as ceddy mods. I will send more donation along the way as long as progress is being made.

I'm looking for a 1995 or 1996 owner with the stock cam sensor to test a hardware fix for this. Anyone (in the US) running the 1998/99 flash ECU, and having the issue with it idling very rough? PM me, or email me at [email protected]
 
Wow Ceddy are you getting some serious cash kick backs from Jeffo at DSMChips.com for marketing everything that you have been working on with the flashing of the 98/99 ecu's. I mean in all honesty if it hadn't been for you braking all the coding they wouldn't have anything to sale.The thing that blows me away the most is that they are charging as much as DSMlink does for there setups.
 
If I'm reading Jeff's pricing correctly, it's $275, which includes a $165 core charge. So, it's $110. ECMLink doesn't cost anywhere near $110, unless you're upgrading from V2. ;) I'll leave it to the reader to decide if they think $110 is worth it to them, but it's certainly not an exceptionally high price for a completely hands-off (for the user) offering: no cables to buy, no forums to read, you just plug and go.

And jeffo isn't doing anything unusual here; you're probably not familiar with the Evo side of the house, but this is exceptionally common over there. Dave (tephra) has been releasing a collection of pre-patched ROMs for several years now (along with a plethora of other folks who release one-off patches for everything from speed density to psi-based boost control), just like Ceddy is doing, and a large number of tuners have stepped in to help people who aren't technically inclined enough to make use of it themselves.

Before calling someone like Jeff out, you might want to familiarize yourself with what he's contributed in the past, and continues to contribute. If you have a 1g ECU, and enjoy some of the tunability that it offers today, you're almost certainly enjoying it because of some bit of work that he (and quite a few others) contributed, and continues to contribute.
