I'm sure that when it is available, they'll include whatever lexan/speedglass/glass that the actual hatch will use.

I emailed SquidSkins about carbon fiber mirrors and here's my response I got back:
So it looks like SquidSkins isn't making stuff anymore.

He doesn't make carbon mirrors but he still makes everything else. I was the last one to order the mirrors from him and he called me up saying it was too hard to make and won't be making them anymore.

He just doesn't make carbon parts anymore. Everything is still available but only in fiberglass.

i want to get a carbon fiber hood fpr my 1g eclipse. i look around in ebay and try to find a great deal. i found that there have some cheap carbon hoods for about $275-$330 and a ViS one for $400 something. so what do you guys think? which one i should buy? i am new in here and i need some advices please! :)

ive seen 2 different grades of CF hoods, "Race" and "Rice" IE is it really super lightweight for weight loss ideas, or just to look sweet ass.

the less you pay, usually the quality is less. Mine is a oem hood for 2g. and right over the exh manifold is a crack, from the heat, it didnt come with a head blanket, so im trying to fab one on as we speak.

also, since they are really thin, driving down the road and on the interstate expect to see that thing jump in the middle up and down what looks like an inch. when passing a semi truck, sometimes i think its goign to fly off my car.

it didnt come with washer nozzles. i dont know if any ofthem do. i had to drill and insert my own.

I understand the heat under the hood will make the CF hood crack, but some people say that the good quality hoods will not fade or crack by heat, is it true?

For the hood jumping up & down, did you install hood pins on it? What brand is the CF hood you have?

The CF hood now mostly have the holes for washer nozzles~~

I have some generic CF hood i got from prostreetonline.com and i've had it on my car for about 6 months. I did install hood pins on it just incase. The only thing I dont like about it is that it seems to come up a little high near the tops of the fenders, but when I was looking at it, it might be better that way since this isnt a show car and it will let heat out better. I did put the factory head shield thing on the new CF hood as well. If you look in my gallery there are a few pics before i put in the hood pins.

oh, and it was about $350 shipped to my door.

I remember reading an overheat thread while back, it turned out he had removed the seal. If I can remember correctly, Defiant had commented that having a gap there actually hurts engine cooling by disrupting airflow. I would do a search and read up on it.

it is possible... its on the side of the hood though, not the back like defiant had mentioned. it probably doesnt do anything and im only trying to convince myself that my poorly fitting hood has some value to it.

You should be able to see through a good carbon fiber hood. My buddy has a Fiber Images hood on his srt4 and we can see through it when you hold it up to the light. It is rumered that VIS hoods are fiberglass hoods wrapped in carbon fiber. And I'd have to say that I believe it more than I disbelieve it. My hood seems to weigh much more than his but it might be because I painted mine......

Well, I do believe that all of the more recently manufactured hoods come with the nozzle holes. My VIS does. I wish it didnt though....

you can see through carbon fiber? hmm. the bottom of my hood is all black... most likely fiber glass, but the whole thing only weighs 15lbs, so i dont really care. besides, im sure the fiberglass adds to the integrity of the hood.

What brand of hood does your friend have? I'm looking to get one of these sometimes during summer, trying to increase looks and save off some weight.

Yup, you should be able to see light, silouettes (sp?), and sometimes even color....

Quite the opposite, actually. A full carbon fiber hood will be significantly lighter, and much stronger than any fiberglass. Fiberglass is not as strong as most people think.... And a hood having a fiberglass core, just means that it's that much less room for carbon fiber. I've dealt with fiberglass spoilers, hoods, fenders, bumpers, etc. and I can def. say that carbon fiber is stronger. I'm not 100% sure if thats how VIS' hoods really are. I have one, and I like it alot.

It's made by Fiber Images.

VIS hoods are not entirely made with CF, it's simply overlaid with carbon fiber.

I have one on my vette and it still is heavy. Look for a reputable CF dealer coz it will suck if it does not fit right. My VIS had a problem lining up whatever I did so I trashed it. My friend's hood for his eclipse worked fine.
