used my old glass

So quick question, most guys on here say its the glass that has most of the mass, is it lighter to open than stock now with the glass and cf hatch? :dsm:

The stock hatch weights around 30lbs w/o glass
The stock glass weights around 22lbs

The cf hats weights around 11lbs
lexan was a little out of my budget. Although my car puts down decent power I got the hatch as a cosmetic upgrade not a performance upgrade

there are pics of a vis cf hatch in another cf hatch thread where the guy had just taken it out of the box.

with this hatch i've yet to put the shocks back on and i need to cut holes to put all the panels back on

Thanks man, I appreciate those pics, I have decided that the weight your saving from the cf hatch and plexan glass isnt worth the price. I could use that $1k to buy some other things, or just make my car more dependable but you def got a sweet ride, the 2gb bumper really looks nice with that rddsm lip talon rear. Nice car man... :thumb:

i was wondering were i could find lightweight seats, hatch, and other carbon fiber parts.
i am looking around right now for stuff like this, but maybe you guys can help.
thanks

ebay search "carbon hatch eclipse" minus the " ....i hear they sell lightweight carbon fiber bolts on there too!!!! You could also check out squidskins.com for truly lightweight carbon stuff, not what you want if you are a ricer (I know my car is a ricebucket, its a reverse psychology thing you wouldnt understand).....or you could do a search on this site for carbon fiber hatch or carbon fiber or carbon fiber doors....

Hey im thinking about getting the VIS CF hatch, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it or read any reviews. I wanted to know how durable they were with the stock glass. If there were any flexing issues, and how they stood up to the factory hatch struts. Any info would be great:talon:

yea... good choice. i don't advise stock glass tho it's much to heavy and it'll cause major cracking. you need to get lexan for it. other than that they're awesome, i do advise bracing if your fairly moded with your car such as rear hatch pins or somthing of that sort just to be safe - good security measure also. :thumb:

hey guy im trying to cut down on all the weight i can plus my stock trunk lid is a lil messed up when i bought it.but anyways i was wondering if any one knew where to get a carbon fiber trunk lid for a 99 spyder.i've been searching but i dont think anyone sells one.btw thanks in advance:D

I relpied to your pm

I've had my gtfabrications.com cf hatch for around a year now. I re used the stock glass and weather stripping and have had no problems.

I have seen those on ebay, from my experience I have seen people run them, they are significantly lighter, however you will want to get it clearcoated after you get it. many people say they yellow after awhile its because they only come gel coated, not clear coated. Other than that I haven't heard any compaints.

I want one but its def. not in the budget.
BTW does any company make a stock style wing in CF?

I can vouch for the guys over at hirevperformance, they have great communication and have killer deals. My hood and hatch are coming in soon, I can't wait.

Can someone elaborate the procedure involved for mounting the stock 2g hatch glass on a cf hatch? Is a glue used? How hard was it? Any sealing issues with rain? Any issues with flexing or sagging?

Thanks,
Andrew
