My $100 vis carbon fiber hatch

Well I found this hatch on Craigslist ended up getting it for $100. It looked trashed but I thought I could fix it so I got it. When installing I found out it was a vis by the badge on the inside, I originally figured it was just a cheap eBay . I installed it already had factory glass in it which was also a plus all I had to do was bolt it on and put my striker on it. After it was on a couple days I decided to wets and and buff it for the hell of it. Turned out great. I spent $5 on wet/dry paper in 1000 1500 and 2000 grit. Spent about an hour sanding it. Then buffed it and wow I followed with a quick liquid wax. This is just a temporary fix until I sand it back down a little better and re clear it. I'm sure it will fade again in a month or so but I plan on redoing it in a couple weeks so no big deal. Here are some pics let me know what ya think.

The only downside is there are 4 holes in it from the crappy carbon fiber wing the po had on it that I'm going to fill with a little fiberglass resin. He was asking $450 for the hatch and wing but I told him I didn't want the wing and talke him down on the hatch . I'm going to leave it wingless and shave the factory holes on the quarters also. I appreciate the positive reinforcement also . As for wishing you could find a deal like this I search Craigslist on my phone 3 times a day with the keywords "eclipse, talon, Dsm, gsx, and tsi" . But this is by far the best deal I have found ever.

Great find, Im in the same boat. I will be sanding down my brothers hood withing the next few weeks, he has a lot of cracks. Hopefully it turns out good. Good luck

Thanks the guy I got my hatch from was a cool dude he just lost his passion for dsms and wanted to clear up space and hook me up I guess. He also delivered it for me for $20, and when he pulled in i know it deff costed him more than that in gas . I couldn't be happier so far.

Nice find. Should of went with the wing too. I bet it would have helped with downforce at around 180 mph.

Wet sanding / compounding / polishing isn't a temporary fix. It is permanent. But if you don't treat it right (washing / and re-waxing sufficiently) anything will turn into crap. As long as you didn't burn through all the clear on the hatch, I would not re-clear it. It's unnecessary & can cause more issues. Keep doing what you're doing, it looks great!

Yea but there is still some yellowing on most of it that I want to sand out. Some places it came off but there is still a good bit. If I would have started with 600 or 800 it probably would have came all the way out, but I was worried about taking off too much so I went 1000-1500-2000. But for $5 and a couple hours of time I couldn't have asked for more, I just wanted it to look a little better until I could redo it better and it worked great.

That's the right idea. Use the least aggressive method to get the job done. You can try 800, and if that doesn't get it out, then 600. But be careful and understand that you may have to re clear it.

The guy that had it before me had a glass guy cut his factory glass out and put it in this hatch.

I know.. I was saying that in agreement with you previous post.. I'll be more clear this time.. I agree with your original presumption you may need to re clear. I said it should be permanent not knowing there was still yellow throughout the paint. I think what you'll need to do to perfect it would be sand until you can't see yellow any more, smooth out to 800 grit, lay on the clear pretty heavily, wait for it to dry, light sand and buff.
