they make a whole car in cf? jesus...for the money there quality better be like the best in the world.

There prices are in Canadian dollars.

Your factory glass maybe too heavy. And why would you spend all that money to keep the glass if the lexan weights less than 10 lbs ! the whole idea is weight reduction.

who cares. go to hairyglass.com and look up his eagle stuff. the prices on the site are for fiberglass but if you email him he will send you prices of c/f parts. he also does doors

Is that Defiant's long lost brother? :shhh:

That hatch is only $210 for fiberglass. That's pretty cheap, wonder how well it fits and how much it weighs.

ok, so what about the daily driver who wants a cf hatch and a lexan glass..... how do i get a defroster? my car is a show car / daily driver / drag car. it does it all, and it does a damn good job of it. can you put defroster stuff in lexan?

Rig up a blowdryer or two and run them to your rear defroster switch. Might be a little loud but it will get the job done, you could even buy one of those "silent" blowdryers. They are extremely quiet.

I'll defer to others with more specific insight, but I don't think any daily driven car with lexan windows would be desireable, or even doable, at all due to the fact that lexan has a known tendancy to scatch easily with general cleaning. Just check out most drag only cars at your local strip with the lexan stuff ... not desireable if you and a show car / daily driver as well.

As for a defroster, no way won't happen. If you are concerned about fog you'll need a special cleaning agent which will reduce static buildup and fog[/u] on these polycarbonate (fancy word for plastic) sheets.

Ultimately, I did a quick search on yahoo for lexan and found the following site [ Pro Glass ] which will make lexan more practical. They coat them with specific scratch resistant film and offer the special cleaning agent I talked about earlier - I'll let you read the rest if it interestests you.

Ultimately, this link [ Why Pro Glass ] might summerize somethings for you.

As for cost goes, if you guys are considering CF hatches and lexan glass ... the Pro Glass maybe the little extra step to make it all come together.

Best of luck to you guys. Can't wait to see pictures...

Plus I don't think lexan windows are street legal.

Yes I know 90% of the parts on our cars aren't but still it's more noticable.

i dont see how lexan windows would be more noticable than regular windows if a cop was to look....

the reason i was looking into the hatch with stock glass is to get away from having to patch the holes in my hatch now to go spoilerless.

but now that i think about it i don't think that it would save that much cash

I'd pounce on it if VIS plans to make the hatch with a 'dry' CF look.

Be sure to hook me up if they need a guinea pig. :thumb:

Well, rather than pay a ton for speed glass or even a modest sum for lexan I opted to replace my rear 3 windows with good old plexiglass from the local hardware store. Very ghetto rigged, very crappy, and very cool IMO.

I'll post pics tomorrow probably once I finish the rear hatch window up but the sides went in easily and for the time being, look only mildly retarded on the car. I'm really looking forward to when they get all sorts of scratched up and cracked. Then I'll get to tape them up with clear duct tape for the ultimate in rigged up styling.

If you think I'm joking, I'm not. Sure, the rear glass only weighed about 30 lbs, but the sheer aesthetic benefit is staggering by itself. My car has been transformed from a pretty crappy looking gutted 1g into a total peice of rigged up manure and I couldn't be happier.

I think the rear hatch weights about 150 lbs give or take 20lbs. and the squidskins/lexan combo weights in at under 30lbs. So you can save close to or more than 100lbs if i'm correct.

150lbs my ass.

If that rear hatch weighed more then 80lbs i would shit a brick.

If my mom and i can manover a 2g hatch outta an astro side sliding door its gotta be light.

Mabee ill weigh it when i get home.

I did trade a black 95 rs owner my 95 talon tsi awd hatch straight up, i didnt even really notice a big difference between the two.

BTW no spoilers rock, on 95-96 talons anyways.

its definately something different. if you wanted to you could get that and just put your stock glass and spoiler on it and use it at car shows. no one would have it and it would definately give you an edge over the competition.
