The VIS hood is mostly fiberglass with a carbon fiber layer on top. Is the Squidskins hood 100% carbon fiber?

thats 800lbs directly off the car and it doesn't look like ass(IE a stripped interior etc)

so think about a 2000lb car witha 400hp 4g63 motor and awd,
he has a full coilover set on his car for autox (its JIC or B+G not sure)

so me thats sound like one word FUN:thumb:

Well I know when I have a passenger I can't stand my car, it just does not seem to pull that hard any more.. Soooo If I could take off just say 150-200lb hmm... shouldn't be TOOO hard to lose 200lb... but I want to keep the bumpers.. I like not dieing on a hard inpact to the front of the car.. and I want some protection for rear impacts... just incase I ever needed it.. (pray to god I dont)
 
They are making a Carbon Fiber Hatch for our cars, pretty sweet i have heard, , will keep updated
 
ya i see lots of CF trunks on WRX's nowadays.. me and my friend were joking about it and put some fake hood pins on his trunk and took some pics.. it was hella funny hahaha cf trunk with clips.. but man, u never know if that trunk will fly up and ruin your....... duno it wont hit shit hahaha
 
I talked to my friend who works for VIS and there in the process of making a mold for a carbon fiber trunk/hatch for the 95-99 model. Its coming out next month approximated cost will be 450. Check out the website for more updates.. But call for pricing and other applications.



do you guys think this is something you would invest in.. give me some feed back.
 
It would be after I get a VIS cf hood for my car. :p But I don't want to lose my stock turbo rear wing. And it would involve more then just bolting on... you have to mess with glass, and remounting the rear wing. So much to do! :cry:
 
i dont think cf hatche look right unless on a black car... i like the cf trunks, but they arent nrealy as big as a hatch. there are already cf hatches and you never see them, as for glass i forget what company, but they make a lexan replacement for it making it much lighter. it is something more for show or strickly racing, i dont think daily drivers would buy them as much. cf hoods look awesome, but hatches can get debatable. but tell them to go for it, im sure they will sell a few, and they can hook up people on t00ners with testfits :thumb: then ill take one ;)

I thought you couldnt get on the 1/4 track if you didnt have stock glass ?

www.squidskins.com currently sell carbon/fiberglass hatches for cheaper . The only way i would pay 450 for VIS is if it was double sided.
Also if you search on here for squidskins thread there is a link to were to get the lexan, if i recall its like 300-400. And its serious weight reduction. I think the rear hatch weights about 150 lbs give or take 20lbs. and the squidskins/lexan combo weights in at under 30lbs. So you can save close to or more than 100lbs if i'm correct.
 
dont get the hatch, just a waist of money for now. i rather just modd my engine with the money. worrie about that first and then if you have time and money get the hatch. plus it only looks good on black cars and also kinda is rice. plus its not that much of weight loose you need to take about 100 pounds to help you 1/4 mile time and it reduces it very slightly. that backs look pimp stock
 
i would consider this hatch provided that it was clear coated and made to the quality of the hoods. the squid skins stuff is less expensive, but i have seen pictures and it is a layup that is meant to be painted, that is the weave is not constant througout the part. so if the vis pice was just a bolt on beutiful carbon pice then i think i would go for it, because my hatch has all sorts of dings and hols in it, and i like the no wing look
 
any 90-91 guys i know where to get a c/f hatch and doors for our cars. they are race parts though. he also makes them in fiberglass. go to www.harryglass.com i emailed them about pics but they said the guy they made it for did not send them pics but the guy lives in michigan somewhere. but from some of his pics his work looks good. oh all prices on site are for fiberglass so don't get to excited. they are priced about the same as what 2g guys would pay for the stuff if you want it in carbon fiber.
 
ive seens some mr2's the old styles and some evos with CF trunk lids... i was just wonderin if anyone sells a CF trunk for our car and would it even be helpful? dsms are so damn front heavy id think losin weight in the rear would cause my GST for traction issues than i have now. Than again less weight is better....
 
mr2's in the early 90's are hatch backs...i dunno i dumped 550 on my CF hood or so and id prolly be willing to do the same on the trunk as long as it fit perfectly. than again with the gas shock thingys on the trunk creating tension it would probably snap the CF in half :( LOL
 
they make a whole car in cf? jesus...for the money there quality better be like the best in the world.
