Broke A Piston Wrist Pin.

Really some nice looking stuff there.
Kel do you know what grit hone they finished the bores with? They look really smooth, more shiny than what I usually see, I think.
If you get a chance, a nice end-on shot of a wrist pin would be cool, so we can see how thick the wall is on them.

Oh never mind on the wrist pin, that shot you just posted shows it - radically thicker than the one on the right. Yeah, see if you can break one of those! :hellyeah:

600 grit per cp. i tilted the block towards the light to get a good shot.

Who did you have doing the machine work?
Scott's machine in fayetteville. He pretty good. Honda Acura Specialist in jonesboro told me about scott's back in 1997 He did all my b18 work back in the day. He has done several dsm blocks for me over the last 12 yearsk and has been spot on with all 4g63 specs The man knows his stuff not to mention almost half the price as topspeed and 4g performance here in atlanta;)

I am soo dead set on reaching my goal its not funny!

Beefy wrist pin. Bullet proof bottom end???? CHECK!!!
Well I am very pleased with everything. I tried to put some insurance into this build whether the girdle and different bearing matter or not. But my gut feeling tells me thatthey do:thumb: Wrist pin according to cp is supposed to handle over a 1000whp even though I will not be near that the insurance takes my concerns off the piston or wrist pin. I spent many sleepless nights stressing over what bearings to use bi-metal or tri-metal and finally ended up using the new king xp series trimetal bearings. I have never been a fan of trimetal metal bearings. I have always used king bimetal ones and have been more than happy even when king wasn't even on the map but they are top notche. Therefore they sold me on their xp ones:applause: I started this thread on a faluire but hopefully the end results will be something that members of the forum can benefit from that is why I am posting continous updates and pictures just in case some may be wondering:cool:. With that been said I will press onward:thumb: 700WHP or bust!!

That's why we don't use CP pistons in boosted engines, they're just not tough enough. They made a name for themselves building pistons for super stock and stock eliminator engines- all N/A applications where lighter is better. Never had a broken pin in an engine running Wisecos. But like Keltalon said, this scenario was a defective pin and CP stood behind it.

i agree with this. wiseco GAVE me a set of thick wall tool steel pins when i called in and asked them about my current stroker build. ive used CP in some nice engines but they were all N/A 6 or 8 cylinder builds where lighter is better, full balanced and blue printed and pistons where measured to .001 of a gram. my wiseco turbo pistons were only measured to within 1 gram. but they are thick, heavy, awesome ring lay out, slugs of aluminum. they look like you could beat on them with a hammer for 10 minutes and then run them for 10 years.

Well you happy with wiseco then thats all that matters. Despite my minor issues with cp I am still a cp man best pistons made IMO!

Thanks! Wood seem too fight with metal sometime in my shop! Lol motors and cabinets never ending battle:rolleyes:

I can totally relate....I used to do a lot of it myself. My father was a cabinet maker by trade; my mom still has a picture of me standing on a wooden box, while my dad is teaching me how to use a band saw when I was only 4. Glad I still had all my fingers through childhood. LOL

See what I mean 13 pictures down in the background in a polished intake manifold sitting on my table saw! ;)

Damn son wish I grew up in your house LOL learn so damn much. Would never have a reason to leave LOL. Good stuff.

beautiful, that bar is a absolute work of art. i have a bunch of drop cloths to toss over engines and motorcycles when i drag the table saws and routers out but wood dust still gets every where, i want to put a air filtration unit in. what i really want is seperate buildings. one for metal work and one for wood work.

Agreed. I'm an acoustical engineer by trade, (high end subwoofer enclosures), so I can really appreciate great attention to detail in something like that. The bar is beautiful.

Thanks. I know what you mean about needing two separate building this is my other dream/goal besides trying to build a 10 sec fwd. Lol. I do have to make sure shop is absolutely clean before doing any engine work! I wrap with plastic first and then with blankets. My engine stuff does have its own little section in the shop which helps with keeping parts together. We keep the shop clean every day so when I send the guys home I will stay a couple hours and work on the beast. Www.Hmcwoodwork.com

I see twicks69 is using CP custom pistons with 23mm tool steel pins. 835whp on a BW S400sx3. Here's a copy from his profile:

Pistons: CP Custom w/ Coated Piston Skirts: Xylan 1010 Low Coefficient 0.002",Piston Rings: Total Seal Customs, Custom Groden Aluminum Rods, Custom CP 23mm 0.220"-Wall Tool Steel Pins and Wire Locks with Mitsubishi Aluminum Rod Bearings with Custom Machinework for Groden Rods Locator Dowels.

A little late to the party but Mike Radowski's 9 sec 3.0L and 2.8L turbocharged BMW's also use CP pistons as well as guys I know with high powered Supras!
