Any reason why you aren't using the vband wg flange on the mani as opposed to the 2bolt mount? Just wondering.

If I had a choice it would be vband remember this is my old man-ifold two bolt flange was already on it:p

Anxious to see when he puts it in the car and starts a dyno thread!:hellyeah: 700whp or bust!!!!! Go for it my dude!!!!!:thumb: Looking good!

Its the little things that kill ya! LOL! spent most of the day fabing and yet to get her on the actual street for some break in time. Got to pay good ole summit a visit tomorrow thank goodness its in my back yard LOL! I will take the country backroad because it does a body good if you know what mean!! :thumb:

Okay been really business lately. I was able to get the engine in the car still got some exhaust fab work to do. In this video I said its the first startup but technically its the 3rd or 4th start up. I primed the oil pump on the engine stand just to make sure oil was flowing before the start up and better yet didn't want to kill my already half dead battery. I still need to find some time to finish this thing up therefore update will be coming in the near future. Just wanted to update this thread. The engine sounds very strong:thumb:

Yep That's the old quaife that things is rock solid;) overall even though the tranny broke it was a good purchase. The current stock tranny with the quaife installed has been holding up for a while now although this may all change when I go for that cyclone record:D Glenn its always a pleasure to have you chime in on our thread!! Next thing on the list at this point is custom exhaust work. I have all the piping but got to find some time admist cold weather, rain and my work load after the holidays is starting to pick up which is a good thing;) But I will update thread when I get something done. I still also got to finish porting CEEDAWG cyclone manifold:coy:

Glad to hear things are going well bud! Can't build a car without work to fund the addiction LOL
I have to say looking at that cyclone manifold i had to find a bib to wear because the drool started making marks on my new polo LOL

I didn't read all of the detailed posts that weren't related to the engine build and diagnosis, but is that powder coated?? I'd LOVE to have my cyclone looking that clean! I've been looking for another one in pieces to play with hybriding some parts from my home made SMIM project onto... I want to take the larger plenum I built, stick it on the part with the valves by unbolting the OEM plenum area and then shortening the overall length by about an inch, inch and 3/8th's or so (and possibly more involved to the point of lenthening the longer runners at the same time with some clever pipe "grafting" :D )

but if ity looked that damn good and had that TB i'd leave it the hell alone and let the other like myself just drool :D

can't wait to see wht the spring will bring.. Gets damn frustrating when you get in the 500+ range as the the amounts of shit that starts to break if you drive the car like it should be driven at that level ges down right uncanny..exploding clutches, stripping teeth, seperating wristpins from pistons etc... (you amost become more aware of what you can break as apposed to how quick you can go LOL ).. Hell even granny shifting and babying the launch i think all of last year was about bringing the entire car up to snuff with the traction/power levels I got to with the AWD swap and the holset and FMIC upgrades.

For me this is the first time i can remember having to keep the power "at a safe level" as apposeed to just leting her rip and hoping for a little cooler denser air constantly... knowing that 31-32 shreds teeth of the gear sets, but like a dope fiend with a mastercard and crack pipe i keep puttin the pedal down just asking for "one more hit" LOL

I finally have gotten the practice and the balls to launch the thing with some authority and look back at my giddy child-like poist of my first first gear AWD tire roast and wonder just how many more times the DSM still has up it's sleeve that it will make me feel like a child on christmass with each 5% duty cycle i add to the solenoid boost.

I remember seeing you at 500hp thinkging "man i can't wait to get there, I"LL BE SET AND SATISFIED" the latter part of that sentence of course being my greatest trick i've ever puylled on myself (convincing i'd be happy at "X" power level LOL) I can't imagine going for 700 in a FWD DSM, eventually 5th will be useless, but there's nothing like the feeling of steering left, sliding right, while reading 100+ on the speedometer and smoke blowing past both windows from those rubber things we some how depend on for traction :D

you gotta get some footage for the rest of us frrom the outside view.. I wish i could come down and strap my gopro on the outside of the car with a few of my sction cup mounts i made while doing a Picture in picture of the speedometer once she's all back together and pulling hard!!!!!

Yeah the manifold is powder coat. I know what you mean about that safe power levels. Trust me once I break the cyclone record which I think is 624whp all i need is 630 then I will shoot for over 700whp just to try and make a statement. I will pull the power back down to usable 550. When I was making 520 the car was absolutely fun to drive especially on the 15 mile concrete expressway near my house:sneaky: Yeah I will definitely get some inside pulls. I have really good feelings about this new set up:cool:

What kinda timing curve are you getting at the 520 level? the dyno read 522 at almost 7k RPM when my trans let go, thinking i might try adn get there gain but keep the timing lower thani have it if EGT's will stay in check, in hopes of not flexin the gear shafts and letting them eat each other.. keeping ine right at 5 and under to about the tune of 480 +/- 5-11hp, but its danmn fun, the cyclone is definitely where it's att for street driving SO much more in the transition from off to on boost areas that itfeel slike a totally different car than with the 1g manifold.. ( iwanted to use it but until seeing you with it a couple years back was affaid it gave up too much HP....best 50 bucks i've spent in parts in a while at that point)

Built my own trans this time and it's holding quite well for being my first manual performance assembly, although i couldn't addord cryo treated or shot peened gears this time it's help much better than the last one (i've been to the same PSI and above but am too affraid to stay there just yet since it's cold and i'm extra crippled in the cold LOL )

Dsmlink was reading somewhere around 16 degrees. I can pull an old log to be sure.

Wow, impressive, guessing the boost was over 30psi easily. Was a self built trans too right>>> I''ve got mine shimmed just at the 600 torque specs by Tm Z but being built alsed past from 4 abd trannies, i've been king my timing really low and shes still hauling arse.. I hnk i start about 9-10* at peak torque and 13 to 15 depending on psi level by redline in the 27-30psi range and it actually feesbetter for a few theories i hav ebeen testing

But I will update thread when I get something done. I still also got to finish porting CEEDAWG cyclone manifold:coy:

No worries my man, I have been very busy with work and my newborn,so there is no pressusre. Im still working on my tranny payments so I can get the tranny back from Raif by late Jan or early Feb. I still gotta get an Ati crank pulley ,my kiggly HLA and a Southbend clutch. So take your time and I'll let you know when I'm ready.:thumb:

I have to send out my exh mani and turbine hsing to Swain coatings as well. Still lots to do!:barf:
Get your car done is what I'm waiting to see.

Also seems like your buddy killercolt had a rough dyno time with his cyclone setup. Strnge to me ,I had posted my comments in his mani thread,go chk it out and add some input ifyou like.

Cool. I will check that thread out.;)

While the fabrcation work is going on I sent my turbo back in to be serviced. You know how that goes at least 3 week's wait time to get it back. I had some minor concerns that I needed check to make sure that it was alright;) Comp will ship it back monday and I should see it by friday feb 1 considering its coming from california.;) when it gets back it will be nice to drive the car once again:thumb:

:thumb: Know whatcha mean. I read your story on that turbo ,I hope it(turbo) all works out ok with no more issues! Anxious to see the beast tuned and dynoed:) Tranny is done hope to get it next week, and I still need other parts I mentioned before ,however I'll still get to see how your car does which will pretty much be my marker. I'll be content with low 500's at the wheel though,I'll leave the pioneering to you on the 700hp mission:D I'm scurred!LOL

PS Yep I have some serious fabbing that needs to be done as well, dual wastegates, downpipe, muffler and ultimately tuning and towing this thing from Southern NJ to Central Connecticut for tuning.

Okay while comp is playing around with my turbo I though I would showcase my lastest kitchen renovation project. This is what allows me to fund my dsm addiction :p <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/t8I3WbEILb0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Well I will have my turbo back on the car tommorrow. I found out that the compressor wheel had to be replaced. Somehow when I removed my compressor cover with a hammer instead of a press I damaged a couple of fins on the billet wheel for this reason the turbo would not balance out. You may be asking why did you have to remove the compressor cover? Well I wanted to see what the extended tip compressor wheel looked like:D sometime we do stupid stuff::p Best part about the repairs was to my surprise the new billet 67mm ET wheel was on the house I just paid for shipping. The turbo was completely torn apart. Its part of normal procedure for comp after inspection of their turbos to replace all the bearings and seals so basically I have a completely refreshed turbo with new billet extended tip compressor wheel for two day shipping to Ga from Cali . I am very thankful!! =I give comp turbo an A+ for customers service on this one!!
