hi, i wona upgrade my turbo on the gsx, and there is so many choices dont know which one to buy, so i asking you pepz wich turbo is best for under 1k for street/strip setup thanks,

It never ceases to amaze me how people instantly answer a question without enough data.

What are his supporting mods? What are his goals? 12 sec? 13? 11? How much is he willing to spend? Want to use race gas or pump only? How's your bottom end? Want to use a bigger potentially "riskier" turbo? The list of necessary info to even vaguely answer his question goes on and on.

For a daily driver (depending on what his goals are) a small or big 16G might be enough... pump gas? Something you want to throw race gas at? Then maybe a 20G, BR20G or Green... bigger, badder and slicker (As in running with slicks)? Then maybe a Red or similar...

It goes on and on. Let's find out what he wants out of it before knee jerking an answer.

And this subject has been beat to death...I hate to say it, but search is your friend...;)

What he said ^ You'll need to state your goals when asking such a wide open question. This same question has been asked thousands of times before. There are literally almost a hundred different turbo configurations you could go with. The fact that people are giving you a recommendation without knowing your goals isn't doing you much good. You'll probably be fine with a Big16G, which is much cheaper than a hybrid, and has been proven to run 11's and 12's if you know what you're doing. Most people don't have the cash that's required to run faster than that anyway.

hey guys wuz up! well anyways i really appriciate the info but as far as my goals well i want a street legal car, but at the same time i want to kick ass at the track. im am willing to spend as much money as it takes to get to the 12s. from what i heard was that the FP 20g was good for fwd but then i heard that the FP red would be good but what do you guys think? i am planning to use race gas as well as pump gas. whats a good turbo ocmbination that will get me to my goals. im planning on runnning 12s and maybe 11s in the future. any info would really be appriciated! thanks for the help guys.

The FP red is a friggin huge turbo, if you are going straight drag and wouldn't mind using nitrous to help spool your turbo, and you plan on building your bottom end up go ahead and get this turbo. For 11s or 12s on a FWD car that is still streetable, I would certainly recommend at least a 20g. The 50 trim and FP green are the pump gas kings and can certainly reach your 11/12 second goals with a good level of streetability. As somebody else mentioned, these turbos offer just enough lag to keep you from roasting your tires on every launch like a smaller/quicker spooling turbo would do. I noticed at the track that I spun tires a lot more with my T25 than I do with my 50 trim.

TURBO QUESTIONS - your first question will likely be what turbo to upgrade to, even if you're not ready to upgrade it (and most members aren't). We recommend typing in keywords in the Search bar at the top to find discussions about specific turbos. We are very strict on how turbos are discussed simply because too much incorrect information gets passed around, and vendor competition usually plays a negative role in the decision making process. To find out how to get the info you're looking for on turbos, click here and read these tips. If you don't have firsthand experience installing any of the Stage 1 upgrades found on this page, you shouldn't be asking about turbos yet anyway, and should be posting most of your engine performance questions in the Newbie Forum.

For FWD:

11's - FP Red, T3/T4 hybrid, 60-1
12's - FP Green, 20G, 50 Trim, FP3055
13's - Ported/clipped 14B, 16G, B16G

+ SUPPORTING MODS Traction will obviously be a problem, so an idea would be to get a GReddy profec B with a dual stage boost. Set lower boost on low setting to get a better traction advantage. This is just the tip of the iceberg, research ( www.vfaq.com ) is your buddy :thumb:

hey guys thanks for your help! i really appriciate the info. i think i might go with the FP green. if im going to run a FP green what supporting mods will i need? so far my mods are: apexi n1 full exhaust w/ no cat, dejon tool intake pipe w/k&n filter, greddy type-s blow off valve, manual boost controller set at 11psi,apexi SAFC,apexi turbo timer, autometer phantom series boost, air&fuel and oil pressure gauges, evo 3 exhaust manifold, starion fmic. so what else do you guys think i need? thanks for the help guys.

Your going to need fuel mods like a walbro 255 pump, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 660cc or bigger, and a bigger FMIC, maybe an IRC or Spearco core. But in all honesty, you should take some time to read all the information in the VFAQs. You will learn alot. Also, use your search option. It will also help you alot, being if you searched, you would see a bunch of threads about this discussion already and you wouldnt have to type all this information. The best thing for you to do right now is try looking up all the old threads about what you really wanna know about these cars. You will see spending more time researching will help raise your knowledge a little bit. Good luck and happy modding.

Im looking to upgrade, i dont want to rape my credit card, only make it feel violated and uncomfortable...

so, for under $900 bux.. which turbo can i get for max power with a streetable spool..

must be internally gated (external stuff would put it past price range)

must bolt up to stock 2g manifold ( I have a 16g already, so i have the install stuff..)

any ideas, turbo can garrett or mitsu type..

right now im considering a ete42, but thats just one option..

thanks for help..

If you choose to get the PTE stuff be sure to tap the oil filter housng for the oil supply. awesome choice just do it right so you wont have any problems. I was on the phone with them for like an hour talking about oil supply location and the reasoning for it.

Hmm, wonder how much of that dumb oil kit i really need..

I already have a stainless oil feed line.. piece of rubber tubing.. clamps..

so basically ill be paying $80 for that elbow, a flange.. and a bunch of stuff i could get at lows for under 10 bux.. jeez what a jip.

look like a good turbo though..

"If you choose to get the PTE stuff be sure to tap the oil filter housng for the oil supply."

it already comes from there stock on the 2g.

JDMawd got a crazy 1G though. :) The 2G oil supply kit does tap from the oil filter housing anyway, but for 1Gs , there is a block off for the original feed, then its tapped from the good spot on the filter housing. JDMawd knows his stuff though.

that neck, is it for going to the oil filter housing? if so I already have that too.. ao all i need is the oil return flange.. 80 bux.. uggh

perfect he should be good to go:thumb:

ill probably get cams before a turbo upgrade.. kinda dumb to have everything else and still be on stock cams..

I Wanna lope BiAtCh!!!.. hmm, yea...

I have a friend that just fried a PTE turbo from taking oil from the head. What is PTEs reasoning for taking oil from the oil fliter housing?

The oil pressure is to low at the head. When you add the increased shaft speeds associated with running 20+ psi and low oil pressure. The thrust bearing tears itself apart. But im sure 5 million turbo scientist's will chime in and say this is all false.

I have read in a past post that FP strongly recommends taking oil from the head, and every FP30 install pic I have seen the oil is being taken from the head. I think their reasoning is that there is too much pressure from the oil filter housing, but if it doesnt blow a T-25 why would it blow a FP30? Its all very confusing.

Greens reds and FP30XX turbos use a different thrust bearing then the PTE's. ball bearings don't require as much oil pressure either.

Forced performance dose not recommend an inline filter either. Just frequent oil changes and clean oil.

All is forgiven. :p

Best bang for the buck is a 50 or 60 trim PTE turbo. Of course any turbo is worthless without tuning, so if you want power , tune first, turbo later.

P.S. Knuckles2.0 ( Have you tried the Amped energy drink from Mountain Dew??? :thumb: :D  OMG )
