I’ve got my valve cover off right now and just replaced the gasket but just learned about the Aluminum Halfmoon thanks to a suggestion from a DSM Guy I know, he recommended to replace my rubber Halfmoon with an aluminum one and I’m trying to find out the pros and cons of doing such. I’ve got a 250,000 mile 7-Bolt 4G63T, I bought a replacement kit that came with a new Rubber Halfmoon and was wondering if I should send it with the kit I bought or purchase a Halfmoon and wait for it to come in, any feedback is appreciated, thanks guys.

The aluminum cam end cap is useful, but if you already have a new rubber one, then go with it. It's not a must item to drive the car. It won't bother you soon in the future as long as if it's new and instal properly. If you would keep playing with your dsm, I am almost sure that you would open the valve cover again for some reason sooner than the rubber end cap life ends. So next time when you open the valve cover and if you already have the aluminum end cap at that moment, replace it. Just my opinion.

Installation would be the same between rubber and metal.
