Resolved Pros n cons 100psi fuel pressure

Just want to know if anyone has turned their fuel pressure to 100 psi to have better atomization of fuel therefore increasing mpgs. And is there anything I should worry about.

Is this on a boosted car? Most injectors are only rated to 119psi before they just stick open.

Not only that, but as pressure increases, pump flow reduces. So a wally 255HP @ 100psi will only flow 195LPH, and the fuel pressure regulator will increase that 100PSI 1-1 with boost, further diminishing flow.

I usually don't make blanket statements like this, but, no, nobody has done this for the sake of MPG in a DSM.

I agree with talontd92tsi. a good tune with some type of engine management system is the best way to improve mpg. set the fuel pressure at the correct psi and tune the car.

Basically....

In addition to reduced flow/output, running such high fuel pressure will greatly reduced the life of your fuel pump.

Also, injectors are designed around a specific pressure differential to achieve the best spray pattern & atomization. Going higher or lower will only be worse. Fuel pressure should be set to the injector manufacturer's spec for best results.

With port injection your stuck, your not gonna see much of an improvement from 100 psi I don't think. Gasoline direct injection has rail pressures of 3000+ psi and this does help with atomization. Injectors are piezo electric and are specially designed to handle the pressure. Higher pressure alone isn't everything, as injector placement and ecu fueling strategies (lean burn, homogenous charge, etc) makes it work. I like where your heads at, it just doesn't work like that in the real world. With good injectors and tune you should be able to get 25+ mpg's on the highway, and still make 300+ horsepower!
