Gonna start by saying it's not the tires or serpentine belt. There is slight oil residue on my timing belt, but I don't think it's that either. I'm thinking my turbo took a shit due to hearing a fast tinking noise under heavy boost (sounds like shaft play to me. Haven't checked yet), it's a consistent noise. But anyway, I'm at a loss on the burning rubber smell, it smells JUST like tires too. Curious if anyone has any ideas at all. I changed my upper control arm ball joints around the time I started noticing the smell, It's only at faster speeds/higher rpms. It's a 2g gst 5 speed with an evo 3 big 16g turbo. Mods list is slightly out of date but most shouldn't be relevant to this. Thanks in advance guys!

Edit: I've also checked for anything possibly burning due to being close to/touching something hot and can't find anything.

I would recommend checking your turbo to make sure your compressor wheel isnt rubbing the housing before it grenades and gets sucked through your motor...as for the smell does it happen when driving/idling/revving...is it constant or does it happen only under certain circumstances/times yahta yahta...

I agree definitely jump on that turbo and make sure it's not rubbing before it gets any worse And costs you more. I also assume it's not clutch related due to what you said was going on.
