So... for months I have been trying to track down the smell of fuel in my cabin. Not exhaust, fuel. It gets worse of the sunroof and/or windows are open. I have replaced every gasket from the header back, replaced the fpr orings, put.new orings on the injector(actually the are doubled up so they seat perfectly in aftermarket intake manifold), replaced the intake manifold gasket, swapped cats(have another car I use for parts), replaced the hatch seal, partially disassembled the dash and finally took the back seat out. Found the smell increased when I removed the rear seat. To my knowledge the fuel pump has never been removed & I've never had issues with it, and all of the screws are firmly in place. However is there a gasket that I can replace beneath the access panel? I.mean it is a 95 & I'm sure these things break down eventually. Also is there a way of better sealing the rubber boot into :he access panel? I really think that I've discovered the culprit & any assistance that can get me back to being able to fully enjoy my car would be appreciated.

I had a in cabin fuel smell on my galant vr4, turned out be one of the fuel lines on the outside of the fuel pump sending unit, the part that bolts to the tank.(due to rust) Was very hard to see.

Clear RTV FTW! That fiber sponge gasket wasn't worth sh!t anymore, so I helped it out with a liberal dose of clear rtv sealant. The silicone gasket beneath the other panel seemed like it was in good shape, but I hedged my bet by applying a thin layer of the clear rtv sealant on all the mounting surfaces. Voila! No more fuel smell. Wish I had been able to find it sooner because in the next few weeks I'm stripping everything off of this one and transferring it to a new shell that hasn't tried to kill me half a dozen times. C'est la vie
