Well I've searched for this but most people who ask this question get an answer of a 6 bolt in a 2g. I also read that the head stud holes need to me drilled out to 12mm from 11mm. Is this all that needs to be done? Follow the 6 bolt swap and just drill out the head holes?
 
Yes that's basically all that needs done.

The 6 bolt and 2g head is a very successful combination. You should try and find an Evo3 or RVR intake manifold and get a 1g TB.

2g air velocity is greater than 1g air velocity. Both can achieve great numbers but you won't be noticing much of a difference until high HP numbers. By that time one would assume that a SMIM would be used then anyway.
 
Just curious, why do you want a 2G head on a 6 bolt? The 1G head is where it's at.

as far as getting the 2g head on the 1g block the head bolt holes need to be reamed from 11mm to 13mm/.500

That is wrong, 2g head is superior in every way. There is enough info around to prove that, even threads that show built 2g head gains over build 1g head.

So far the kelfords coupled with the evo manifold which they were likely built around are a better combination, regardless of the head used.

Id still say thats still a pretty damn good comparison. Built 1g head with smim and fp2's, vs built 2g head with OEM IM and 272's.

So your saying evo IM and 272's alone picked up 89whp over jmf smim and fp2's ? Thats crazy talk.

Kelford 272s are NOT 272's like the hks/fp2/bc272 variety. Their effective duration is FAR FAR higher. Even the cam test results show that they move the powerband quite a ways higher; even with a laggy turbo like the 35r. Nevermind their lift and ramp rate (plus those later variables matching the 2g/evo style ports).

I've seen many see MARGINAL gains with a SMIM at this level. He's revving to a stock redline, actually. SMIM wouldn't help nearly that much at all with simply a stock redline. The stock 1g intake manifold out flows the typical SMIM at all rpms before 6500rpms and slightly falls off through to a stock rev limit, per the results all over the web. They SMIM is meant for 8500+ rpms; and a GREAT cam, not a typical hks/comp101200 cam profile.

Playing devil's advocate here. All I'm saying is that's a pi$$ poor example of a 2g head flat out performing better than a 1g head. Remember there's also the other dyno used, operator, and tuner involved. I'd rather take Curt Brown's word for it, if I were looking for results and only found that ;) .
 
Go talk to Kiggly or Curt Brown and they will give you a list of reasons why they switched to a 2G head.

Your comment doesnt make any sense. Where would the gains come from then by adding a larger "high rev" cam then only running it to stock redline? Where those huge cams would just start making power.

He didnt just gain peak power. He gained huge all across the board. hp and tq The cams had NOTHING to do with those gains, if anything would have hurt his low end. The evo im would help there but not gain anywhere near 90whp especially since a aftermarket IM was already present.

O and that wasnt the quote i was going for but it was edited 6 times in the last 30 seconds.

I had a NT 1G that did this. I never did figure it out, After breaking around 3 bellhousings it finally cracked off that part of the block. What a pain

This happened to me twice. Once, the cause being the previous owner forgot the rear bell housing bolt on the backside which screws into the tranny. The second time with another car, that same bolt hole was stripped.
