And once again on the neverending journery of getting my 1G DSM back on the road.

We've installed the new 7 bolt engine ordered from Miller Import Auto..Got everything sorted to fire her up. Well, Once we did..It fired up quite nicely...but the head had a not so loud clicking sound, Best way to describe it in my opinion was of the sound of a baseball card clipped to a bicycle tire. So my mechanic suspected that the lifters were bad...and upon inspection they were, Not only that...but a alot of oil would leak from the corner of the head.

So we pulled it out once again, bought a new head gasket, and Intake Manifold Gasket. Before deciding to swap out the lifters we looked at the heads themselves and noticed that it cant be resurfaced anymore. :|

So we considered using the 6 bolt head that we originally took out of the car, Well the same case with those, cant be resurfaced anymore

Gahh, So I dont know what the best option would be, risk putting on the 7 bolt head with the swapped Lifters without resurfacing? Or the 6 bolt head without resurfacing? What risks would I run? Or should I consider finding another head that is in better condition?

Its been awhile since Ive logged on...Sorry guys..Works been getting slow on the ride thanks to other expenses. Thank you and Id appreciate the feedback.

Make sure to measure the head thickness properly. Then determined if can still be used. You can still use a head when its close to the surfacing limits but you just need to make sure you use thicker gasket. When you so decides to use thicker gaskets(multi layer steels) make sure the block and the head is within (40RA's surface finish) otherwise the head and block will never seal and you will be pushing coolent.

Could you give me an example of a thicker gasket? I had bought the Fel-Pro gasket available online.

Thanks By the way

if the head is not damage and its flat(straight) and your block is straight why resurface it? just use the felpro and arp studs and you are good to go.

I second this. Get an OEM or Felpro composite gasket, torque it down with some ARP's or at least new bolts, and your good to go. The oil at the corners might be the valve cover gasket.

Thats what I originally thought so I already replaced the valve cover gasket, the oil was visibly coming from the passenger side front corner of the head. Ill take a close look at the 6 bolt head and see if it is straight, Hopefully it is. Ill keep everyone updated. I cant wait to get her on the road again. :hellyeah:
