hey guys just wondering if i can run a bc 272 cams with just a chip?

Dont worry same as that 2g is you can do it. The 272s are good for street, you can even run with stock valve, springs, retainers with the. You will here a difference in your idle but not bad. Sounds pretty cool to me at times LOL. So go ahead have fun

A chip? No. You don't need any valve/head work with 272's, but 272's are pushing it.
And chip? Our cars don't really have chips, asides from DSM link.

272's are a "bolt on" mod.

yup LOL. another one of my friends just raised his Idle close to 1,000 rpms and you couldn't really hear them as much.

Its funny how some people that don't really know much about cars think that your engine has some serious mechanical problems when they hear the engine idle with cams LOL.

Yes we do have chips. They are EPROM chips that you can get with a custom tune. And that's what he's talking about when he refers to chips.

So let me get this right cause I'm aching for some cams now. I can get 272/ 272 with no tune. You serious! LOL
I lost my manual after I've moved but how hard is it to change comparing it to an oil change!

Yes you can install them with no tune, but it is not ANYWHERE close to as easy as changing your oil and is not something you can rush into. If you don't know much about working on cars I would not suggest trying to do it or you WILL ruin your motor.

Here is a install guide
Installing Cams into a 4G63 - My Pro Street

If you can change a timing belt and valve cover gasket, you can install cams. You just need to pop the cam gears off the old cams, properly install them into the new cams, bolt the new cams on with plenty of assy lube, replaced the valve cover gasket, reinstall the timing belt with the proper timing set, and button everything back up. It took me about 3 hours to "undress" my engine the first time I did an in car timing belt change on one of these cars. And about 2 hrs to swap the belt and have everything back together.

Edit:

Actually, I would just do it dsmdeliveryboy's way unless you need to do a new timing kit as well.

^^^^ Thanks guys... good info. I'll probably look into some. I sorta heading Brian's old direction illeclipse but a fwd platform. Low 13's good enough for me unless time is a drug and only low 12's will do!LOL

This really makes me want to get some cams. Especially because I'm in the middle of a timing belt job.
