Yeah it's a bit cold all over. I heard Texas was in the 20s.

When I left my house this morning my little garage heater was struggling to keep temps above 60° in the garage

It's also getting colder now. Only -7 before windchill, with it it's down to -34 LOL

I’m down AF.

They’re calling for 5-6” of snow here in Florida on Tuesday. Even though the majority of people here are from states with snow everyone has lost their minds.

Would love to escape. I adore the cold(real cold. Not 30*).

Well I popped the intake valves back in the head. I'm just going to take the whole thing to the machine shop and have them check the seats, guides, and valve faces to see if they either need replaced or ground. No matter what I do I'll be lapping the valves in when I get everything back.
PXL_20250121_003504621.jpg

While numbering the valves I noticed that a couple exhaust valves had some "nicks" in them? I'm not sure what else to call these. The intake valves do not have these..

Well dropped the head off at the machine shop. Gave them the list of everything that I wanted done/looked at.
I brought in new GSC valve guides that I told them to put in regardless.
Overall they said it would be around 2 months for them to get it all done :(
They also said that the head was right at its service limit. I know plenty of people have run them below that limit and have had zero issues so I think I'll just tell them to clean it up regardless.
With that being said I think I am going to try and really try to degree the cam gears this time. With that much material off the head and aftermarket cams id like to make sure everything is happening when it's supposed to.

Spare cylinder head came in and looks good. Definitely needs a cleanup. I'll keep this for another day and maybe eventually build and pocket port it or something.

Really not much to do besides a few small things like I have to once again re-pin one of my coil pack connectors since the wire pulled out due to a failed crimp, and replace the water pump gasket. The rest all really has to wait for the head to come back.

Well ladies and gents the "secret" thing arrived about a week early. So here it is!

MCR Billet valve cover. Modified for -12orb ports.

You can see their redesigned baffle for the ports.

I think I'm going to mess with this sometime and see about adding some filtering media to it, like some of those stainless steel sponge things maybe?

I also snagged a little set of timing component tools on Amazon. Now I can properly compress the tensioner back
Includes the tensioner rod, balance shaft rod, the little key tool for the tensioner pulley and another grenade pin.

And also snagged a little set of ends for my dial gauge indicator for when I degree the cams this time.

This is the only pic I have at the moment, I can pull it tomorrow and get more. I was kidding too about yours, it looks just as nice as the frontline, also there’s the issue I’ve yet to address of the fittings bottoming out on the baffle, that’s pretty sweet you got yours with -12an breathers too :rocks:

In Brandon’s build thread,(Kratosv2) he mentioned shaving them down, I was wondering if there’s possibly a shorter fitting maybe? Otherwise my fear of cutting them is ruining the threads
I think you can safely cut them as long as you debur them. Easy job for a file or cutting disk. IMO the threads are so course that there's tons of room between them to make em nice again. I'll have to take a look

I may give that a try, depending on how your attempt turns out LOL
So it definitely can be done. I wouldn't recommend it mainly because the burrs on the threads if you nick some other threads can mess up the threads in the valve cover. But here's mine.

IF you decide to do it, find someone with a bandsaw or something that can cut straight. I used a cutting disk.. not fun.

You can see in that last picture even after deburring the threads a bit it kind of dug up some material out of the threads of the valve cover. I probably won't remove these ever but just putting it out there.

Looks good! We have a band saw at work, I might go that route :thumb:
Id recommend nor cutting it flush with the underside of the valve cover either. Try to keep like half a thread or just a small lip sticking out so compressed oil vapor that turns to liquid doesn't funnel into the fittings when you start building pressure. I think I cut off just over 2 full threads off the end of mine.

That’s impressive, headstuds look like L19’s?I think that SCE gasket won’t disappoint, I’ve only seen 39 psi on my baby 6266 but no issues LOL, @mikEclipse99 ran like 60 psi on a 6870 on one with no complaints
Indeed 65-70psi! L19s torqued to 110 ft lbs. I still use this same combo on my GVR4 now

Not a whole lot to update. Machine shop called on the 22nd and let me know they were getting the head cleaned up and then sent out to another shop to have the washer inserts bored out and countersunk. Once it's back they'll work on getting it milled down and valve job done and what not.

They did say that the head was right at the service limit before any machining. I told them that it should be fine to take it over. It seems that plenty of people have run them over before with no issues but to make sure to degree everything.

Touched the car for the first time since getting the head off basically or messing with the new valve cover. Just finished cleaning up the old head gasket material off the block with these carbide scrapers. The picture makes it look awful but it's perfectly smooth, no burs or scratches.

They said they should have it done in a "couple" weeks. I'm ready to have the ol girl back for sure.
