When installing the timing belt with the Kiggly racing tone wheel and AEM cam gears I have lined up the marks on the cam gears and held them in place with the STM cam gear holder. I have lined up the mark on the tone wheel (crank gear/kiggly tone wheel) as accurately as possible (the balance shaft drive gear with spacer plate that has the TDC indicator on it has been deleted due to the Kiggly tone wheel install).

After everything is lined up and the tension is set and the crank has been rotated 2 times the marks all seem to line up. However, after installing the timing cover and crank balancer the TDC mark on the timing cover does not seem to line up with the notch on the balancer, it is literally a hair off or maybe a half tooth 1-2mm from TDC.

At this point I lined the mark on the front cover to the notch on the crank pulley, removed the front cover and held the belt to the crank sprocket and oil pump gear with plastic clamps so it will not move. I repositioned the cam gears, set the tension, reinstalled the cover just to find out the notch on the dampener barely lines up to the TDC mark on the cover, its like 1.5mm-2mm off in the retard position. I hope this makes sense..

Has anyone ran into this?

I am thinking it is probably OK, due to the fact I cannot use the balance shaft gear spacer with TDC mark as a guide.

Sorry for the long thread.
I appreciate all the help!

I can’t say I’ve ever worried about whether the balancer lines up to the timing cover because that’s not how the FSM recommends you set timing. I wouldn’t worry about but others can chime in.

What damper are you using? I would trust the mark on the kiggly trigger wheel over the damper/timing cover.

If you really want to check the kiggly wheel, you should use a positive stop to determine the real TDC. Take an old spark plug and cut it apart so you can get the porclin out. Then tap the hole to thread a bolt into it. Put the stop in and thread the bolt in so that it stops the piston a little bit before TDC. Mark where it starts, then roll the motor over backwards till it hits the stop again. Mark it there too, TDC is the middle of the two marks. Be gentle to not beat the piss out of things.

I am using the stock crank. I think the problem may be the amount of tension I’m putting on the tensioner pulley which may be slightly pushing the crank sprocket down a little I will try to add photos

I have the same issue with mine after installing it last week. Did you ever figured out a consensus to it? I confirmed the engine was at TDC with all the timing marks on the crank/cam gears lined up as well. The TDC marking on my fluidampr harmonic balancer just won't line up on the 1g lower timing cover.

Parallax always messes these pictures up.
The timing marks on the cam sprocket need to meet at the parting line between the head and rocker cover and it's hard to tell in this if they are below it.

Isn’t the red kiggly mark showing slight advanced timing position? same as the pulley?
Maybe I’m mistaking the mark to use?

what does a screwdriver in the spark plug hole say?

This is how my timing marks lined up, but I’m using the 2 tooth kiggly crank trigger setup instead of the 12 tooth. I verified with a long 1/4” extension that the #1 cylinder was indeed at TDC, and the timing mark on the crank pulley still seemed like it was just a touch off from the TDC marking on the 1g lower timing cover.
