Your opinion: t-28 or evo3 16g

Hey all. I've been looking at buying a motor that comes with a t-28 turbo... Should I sell the t-28 for the evo3 16g or keep the t-28...I'm looking for acceleration over top speed so which turbo would be better for me...also which would be most reliable or is that about the same... Thanks for your time

I have ran both turbo's. The evo3 is a better all around turbo. However, if i had a t28, i wouldn't bother upgrading to an evo3.

16g was truly meant for the 4g63 motor. It really is an amazing turbo with tons of room to grow if ever needed.

If the 16g is a better turbo then why wouldn't you upgrade? I'm more familiar with a 16g too so I am kinda pushin that way... Also if you choose a turbo you prefer please explain why you prefer one over the other. Thanks for your help guys

A T28 is a direct-fit replacement for a 2G, which brings about a few questions:

- Why would you want a 2G turbo on your '90?

- What engine are you buying that is coming with a T28 attached? If it's a 2G engine, it will not fit in your 1990 car....there are no roll stop provisions on the 2G blocks.

- If you were thinking of putting a 2G engine into your 1990.....wait, what are you thinking putting a 2G engine into a 1990?

For what its worth, I've also run the T28 and the EVO3 16g. Hands down the EVO3 16g is a pretty big upgrade, about +60 h.p. Spoolwise they are extremely close. IMHO, it would definitely be worth upgrading.

I have the EVOIII 16G on mine and it pulls well at the high end of the gears. I have only had the car a short time, but even on my AFR it shows no knock with only a base tune, and I can't wait to get the thing caught up on its basic maintenance so I can get a professional tune. so I would say 16g.

Ok for one I never said it's attached, I said it's included... For two the t-28 is a direct bolt on for 2g and minor mods for 1g so it's not entirely a 2g turbo (16g is direct bolt on for 1g and minor mods for a 2g) and third why would I take a 6 bolt out to put in a seven bolt. That would be pointless in my eyes

I would say go with the 16g as it would be a direct bolt on for you. Oh, and if you were in the tristate area I would swap your 6bolt with my 7bolt with you in a heartbeat

I would deffinetely get the Evo 3. I bought one to replace my 14b and even though I am mostly all stock running stock boost... I still noticed an marginal increase in spooling power over the 14b... so over the t2small.... upgrade is worth it. Iwould not on the otherhand, sell the T25 just incase something happens to your other turbo.. having a backup is a nice benefit of a DD.

I have a big t28 I like it but the evo 3 16g flows more than the t28 just make sure when you buy an evo 3 16g that you specify its an mhi not an evo 3 ebay turbo or you would end up being screwed like I did which Iam stuck with sn ebay one cause a member here posted evo 3 16g for sale then when I get the turbo its a ebay turbo when I asked why he send me an ebay turbo he said he never said it was real or mhi evo 3 16g so please be careful

depends on the t28. If it's the FP big t28, it is considered very close in flow to the evo3 16g. But regardless, if you havn't purchased it yet, look for an evo3 16g. Typically they are actually more affordable. And they still flow a bit more, and have seen better results.
