Why do not that many DSM's even consider nitrous

I was wondering why not very many people use nitrous on the DSM. I have a dry kit that I had on my LT1 and was considering using it since I can't really get much money selling it.

People who run DSMs are usually turbocharger obsessed. When I told a friend of mine I was thinking of doing a 2.4 supercharged w/ 100 shot build in my celica he looked at me like I was mad.

Personally I want the power all the time, not just when I push a button. You have to go to a fill up station when you run out I have no clue where a nitrous station is in northern colorado, but gas stations are everywhere. I think nitrous fits much better in a car that only sees the drag strip and a lot of DSMers still drive their cars on the regular

I like the idea of nitrous i was researching this today actually.

having a 100shot of nitrous means thats 100hp less in modifications you have to do, driving around daily. So less wear and fuel consumption, the car will be closer to stock while having the performance on a as needed basis right? I mean, who floors their dsm every 2 seconds anyways ;)

On DSM's, nitrous is usually used to help large turbos spool faster, and usually on full-built race applications. Cylinder pressures are already extremely high on a boosted motor; adding nitrous on top of that means that you are running on the ragged edge, and you need a very solid bottom end and the tuning skill necessary to pull it off safely.

It's hard enough to keep a street motor together with boost and good tuning... ;)

I wouldn't put a 100 shot on a stock bottom end. You'll scatter parts all over.

I had a zex system on my lude. It looked awesome hooked up to the corner lens. Later used for propane and spark plug in the muffler. Only used that once. Green pearl on a scorched bumper is not cheap.

Granted, you have a 420A, so this may apply to you. I'm not cracking, but in my opinion, with a 4G63 this is not the case.

People are sheep. "Hurr Durr, nitrous bad! GT35R and supporting mods guud!" Why is 100hp worth of spray going to send parts flying out, but running a 16g, 50 trim ect and making over 200 more horsepower safe? The answer is it's BS and people are afraid of nitrous. Why, I don't know.

As MrP said above, chances are if you have spray, you aren't going to be using it every day. This means that your engine isn't getting HAMMERED with boost every day. But when it's time to beat on it, you have nitrous. Whats so difficult about this concept?

So a guy with a stock engine who is already running a 60-1 on 25lbs, maybe this is not a good idea because the limits of the stock engine are already closed to being achieved. However, someone who is considering a bit more power on their 14b or 16g car, and don't want to spend alot of money on supporting mods can simply buy a $500 nitrous kit and have just as much fun.

Ask me how I know.

Well said my friend. I used a 50 shot on my .6 liter cbr that has a 14:1 compression ratio over 50 passes with zero problems. I tuned it myself. People are afraid of what they dont understand.

I was toying with the idea of a direct port 100 shot using a secondary 1 gal fuel cell filled with C16, but i have a very heavy foot and combined with 30+ psi on the street tune, that takes its toll to begin with.

What are you running with a 50 shot on a 600 with a built motor?

The problem there is the fact that most people do not understand what they are getting into as what pointed out.

You still need the supporting mods as the supporting mods are for the turbo itself and the ability to run it. Without them then you'll be done just like another moron thinking bolting up a 250 shot is fine.

The biggest issue with nitrous I see is the fact it's limited and this is a biased opinion but a majority of the people out there that have it are not going to a track and using it. Even as you just said, $500 for just as much fun. The correct term would be "for the same time slip"

Also, having a 420a doesn't mean squat if he has internals made for a turbo and can handle enough pressure. It's just as strong as a 4g when built. It's all in the tune anyway.

Its actually a stock motor. It only runs a 10 flat though. I was very disappointed with it. My best pass was a 1.4 60' 6.3@110 [email protected]

I would've expected a little more trap speed, but the ET is solid. I guess you can ride it! 1.4 is a great 60' time, i'm guessing lowered and/or stretched with some -/+ sprockets?

I had a 100 shot on my 150+K miles auto talon with a fmic and 550s afc and pump and it LOVED it!!! I raced it the whole summer street and track and NEVER had an issue... In fact when I took it apart to put wiseco's and eagles in it it looked like the valves and pistons were brand new! NOS cleans your carbon :) Thats just my experiance...
