why do we keep dsm's

Mine doesn't break at all. Typical maintenance for an 18 yr old car.

i keep mine because i'm not an a**hole and/or mistreat mine.

Mine isn't your typical dsm i guess in the aspect i don't have a weekly/monthly/ daily thing i need to fix.

Last thing i replaced was a battery about a month ago.
Before that it was a thermostat about a year ago.

things i have done just purely because i wanted it done is...
i have gotten 2 new tires for the front last year.
Right now i am adding cams/ cam gears/ valve springs

if my car broke down as much as i hear from someone who knows someone who's cousin's aunt's ex-husband's son's baby momma's new love toy honda boy said it did i would think about it. but that's all hearsay and doesn't effect me. Only time my car breaks down is when I am stupid and do something to make it break down.

Same here, mine has yet to break (knocks on wood). Just treat it good, do all maintenance, and it will take care of you.

I love me DSM cause it makes for an awesome Auto X car. It does break alot but I drive it like I stole it everyday

Mine breaks every damn week and I take care of it the best I can..

I literally have had the worst luck with this car and always talk about selling it when it breaks.
but then I fix it and feel it pull again and it wins me back

This belongs in the hangout section. We keep our DSMs because no matter how much they break, everything else is lame. Exceptions made for awd colts.

If you treat your dsm good most of the time ( i mean dont lie we all have these cars because of how quick and fun they are) it will treat you the same. I and probably 99% of the people on here have gone through hard times with their cars. I was close to giving up on mine after dumping loads of money into it, but now I can say my car is running almost perfect and these few weeks of driving have made up for all the down time. Just stay with it, and in the end it turns out amazing.

No offense man but you drive a N/T (not saying the 420a is a bad platform), and dont have near as many problems as turbo 4g63 do. I could be wrong saying that, but from my experience our problems end up being much more costly.

Mine is running like a champ! But the reason I keep a 19 year old car is because it is my main hobby. I enjoy modifying it, driving it, racing it... and yes, on occasion, fixing it.

Thats the way i felt about my turbo saturn for the longest time. It was something different. Now in the DSM world it's not so different but, seems pretty rare to see a first gen on the street when i'm out an d about. I just need to get my gsx up and running. but, patience will get it done and done right.

That is another one if the things I like about it. I also have an Avalanche and it seems like everyone else does too, almost every parking lot I go in I can count a handful of other Avalanches. With the dsm, especially a 1g, you don't see many and the ones you do see are usually owned by other enthusiasts who enjoy them as well (or a teenager and it was all he could afford, but hey that used to be me too).

I keep mine as a personal accomplishment. Not many people can say they put their car together from ground up. Nothing can compare to the internal gratification after a long night working on it or someone asking who did all the work for you.

oh ok sorry. i have spent manny hours under in beside and near my dsm i just cant stand to see it sit any longer. my kids are getting older by the day and are starting to cost me so much money. i dont know if my dsm will get done once more.

I keep my DSM ( 98 GSX ) because it is the sexiest car ever ( in my opinion ) Everyone in my area drive "American Muscle" or civic. So my car stands out for sure. And if it does break down I know how to fix it, and it dosnt cast an arm and a leg.

Mine was not all i could afford. I really wanted DSM, i love my baby, and I was the only Turbo DSM in town for a while. My 1g never breaks on me, unless of course I do something stupid. I baby it and treat it right, and it does put out when i need it too. If i did sell my baby, it would only be to buy another DSM , or some other Turbo'd Mitsubishi! DSMs are Sexy, fast and way better than a honduh or "muscle" car.
