winnipeg,
hey guys,
i just got my eclipse yesterday. i read the part about the alarm in the manual, and can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. it seems as though ever time i walk away from my car, the alarm goes off a few minutes later.
its a factory alarm and i don't have a remote for it.
i usually push the button from the inside, then close the door and walk away. that always set it off, so i tried using the key from the outisde to lock it. it went off again. the hatch was locked, and the hood was properly latched.
everytime the alarm goes off, i just go and unlock my door, open it then push the button to lock it again and it doesnt go off a second time.
does the car need to be turned off or something when i lock the door. i usually push the lock button and then close the door (prolly a bad idea for locking my keys in my car but i always just let it run for those few extra seconds just cause)
any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Try disconnecting the battery for 15-20 min. then reconnect with the doors open and unlocked. Close the door and reopen it (the hokey pokey is optional but preferable at this point). Reclose the door and set your alarm. Open the door with the KEY. if this doesn't work then kick the tire and take it to someone with a better idea of WTF is going on.

I had a similar story: I was getting out of my car at a wedding reception and I instinctively locked the door and got out but my girlfriend was still in the car. When she got out the alarm went nuts. I had to sit with the manual and figure out how to turn it off while people and even the police came by to see what was going on. (I think my car has it out for my girl though because once it locked the seat belt and wouldn't let my girlfriend buckle. I had to unbolt the seat belt just to unlock it... WOMEN!). :p

I had the smae problem after i had my timing belts changed. There is a bracket on the frame behind the driver side headlight that has a pressure relay, if that bracket got bent, the button would compress and the car would think someone forced open the hood and would trigger the alarm. Thats what happened to me anyhow.
Hope this helps,
Bryan Tracy

LOL you have the same problem i have.

when i first got my car(january 04) i parked it in my driveway. locked it. come 3 at night i hear this horn going off like crazy, lok out and my car is going nuts. co i get the clicker and go to unlock it. nothing. i hold the unlock. nothing. i hold lock. nothing. i hold panic. nothing. so i open the garage and go to the door, mind you its january and im in my boxers and its 3 in the morning. i try putting the key in the lock and unlocking it twice. nothing. but the dam thing was unlocked. so i pop the hood and rip off the positive battery cable. alarm goes off. so after all my neighbors laugh at me in my crappy alarm dsm in my boxers i go inside.

i get to work the next morning. i lock it and walk away. about 1 minute later i hear the Beep Beep Beep of the horn in the distance. FOCK. so i run to the car and try everything. all the lights still work, the engine starts, but the dam thing wont stop beeping. so i pull the battery cable again. reconnect it and lock it and sit there for a good 10 minutes waiting for it to go off. nothing. so i go to work.

i get off and i am walking to my car, and i press the Unlock key. i get to the car, lift up on the handle and it goes off. WTF!!!!!!!! so i try more things. finally decide to pull the cable once again.

then i decided to just take it to a audio place and get an alarm installed.

but i keep adding more engine mods and pushing the alarm off. i just leave it unlocked but i park it where i can see it. like thatll help. one of these days ill get an alarm, i just hope i dont spend 250 for it to go crazy too. dam DSM's.

I had the same issue guys. Not only is it a security issue (lock doors and annoy neighbors or sleep for one night?), but it's somewhat embarrasing. If you read a few posts up about the hood pressure switch, there's your culprit. Just disconnect the clip from that switch and I can 99% guarantee you that it will stop. Worked for me. The only bad part is, the alarm won't go off if the hood is opened, but these alarms aren't the most secure anyway, you could just brake the window and hop in to take off (well, probably a little more difficult) Give it a run, I now sleep peacefully every night and have never had alarm problems since.
