ok so i locked my car about 20 mins before, went and burnt a CD, went back out to see if it worked in my Pioneer, and i opened the door and the alarm went off... i disconnected the battery to turn it off. inserting the key in the ignition doesn't turn it off.. what does? i dont want this to be happening all the time and i dont have the remote for it... i just got the car today.. its a 1998 Eclipse Spyder Convertible

Are you talking about the factory alarm? If so you put the key in the door just like you would unlock it and it should shut the alarm off.

i am, but why would it go off if i used that key to unlock it? i dont get it

Were your door handles replaced at all? There should be a small clip with wires that attaches to the locking mechanism that controls the power locks and the anti theft system. If its not attached or broken then this is your problem.

And this is what I am hoping to rule in or out with the trunk.

The door locks have a small plastic clip that attaches to the lock mechanism, it tells the factory alarm the Key has been inserted and to shut its self off, if this plastic clip has been removed then you need to replace it or disable the oem horn alarm

Yeah they were. They are black and the car is green. So i'll have to take them out to see of they were wired right. If not, i'll have to use the trunk method

the passenger one works to turn it off but the driver side doednt and the trunk lick is seized up from rust...

Wow, when I first bought my spyder, it did the same EXACT thing and I had no idea what was going on. My passenger door had to be unlocked first for it to not go off and wake up the neighbors. I ended up disconnecting the alarm and saying the hell with it for now.

A cheap fix would be to open each door up and swap parts so that your drivers side will key the alarm off instead of the passengers door. I was lazy and decided I did not need an alarm (for now) and I didn't wanna unlock the passengers door first every time.

i'm just cutting out the alarm tomorrow, its also immobilizing my car.. it wont even crank over. that son of a bi*** MUST DIEEEE

I cut mine out. Annoying POS. How many of you think anything other than "STFU with your stupid alarm!" everytime you hear someone else's go off? There is not really much extra security offered by the noise maker. The immobilizer is handy, if a retarded car thief is stealing your car and can't figure out that popping the hood and yanking the battery cable will reset the system. You know what the best thing for security you can do is? Put a lock on the hood latch.

How did you disarm the alarm exactly?

Really good question. I believe it varies depending on the year of the car and if its a factory alarm. I had a mechanic who was doing my car inspection turn it off for me because I told him I didn't wanna unlock the passenger side door anymore first.

after a quick search..i found this..
"depending on your year

tie either the Green/White, Brn/White, Brn/Blk to ground depending on your year
located behind the kick panel on the drivers side

just check the polarity and function of the wires before tapping into them to see which is correct for your car"

kick panel is by the clutch area

Might be a good idea to walk into pepboys and look in the chiltons manuel and read how to do it. Or any type of service manual.

Will his disarm the immobilizer?

I was just curious. Mine still works fine to this day and dont have plans to pull it. I did however remove the horn by the battery. When i lowered my battery it was on the firewall and looked outta place. So i disconnected it figuring that my alarm simply wont make any noise now. Well i was wrong and turns out that dsms have 2 horns for the alarm... Go figure haha..

I am honestly not sure, its a rough chance to take since it is your DD. Wish you knew who put the alarm in and had some info on it, def sounds like an aftermarket job.

If you find the right wires, I suppose you could always cut/unplug them and see if the car starts and maybe reattach them if it doesn't. If its your only way to work, i'd be very cautious.
