why do we keep dsm's

Because when it breaks i know how to fix it, everything has broken and 99 percent of it has been repaired or replaced by me, besides it my garage queen LOL.

...but then I fix it and feel it pull again and it wins me back

Exactly this.
I bought mine sight unseen (big mistake) out of state (big mistake) and with terrible pictures (big mistake). I then proceeded to pay a dealer 7500 to do all the "regular maintenance" I didn't know if had been done or not.
He ripped me off big time, stole some of my new parts (of course i didn't fine out until much too much later) I ordered from the dealer and didn't tell me about some serious problems with my car he should have seen or perhaps that he caused (why was my transmission full of anti-seize and my flywheel cracked to heck if you replaced the clutch and pressure plate?).
When i got it back, it turns out the frame was bent from what would appear to be a major accident prior to me getting it, so when you got on it more than a little the transmission mount would bang against the ear on the frame.
After 3 trips to the body shop and its "just good enough" (never going to that body shop again).
In the end i learned alot, bought alot of tools, and spent thousands of dollars rebuilding the transmission, having the frame straightened, redoing the mainside of the engine, all new engine gaskets, new valves and seats, replacing a lot of worn suspension parts, much of which i had already paid a dealer mechanic to do a couple years ago, and more...
But after it being in the garage on a lift for 2 years, just this last Sunday I took it out gingerly to the parking lot literally next door, and after a couple circles and figure-8s, backing, testing first, second and reverse (first time on the rebuilt tranny  ) , I pulled out of the parking lot towards my driveway and instead of doing the sensible thing (pulling back into my driveway to check for leaks) I punched it thru first and second, felt the pull, heard the turbo sing, the punctuation of BOV, and the growling line of the engine, and suddenly, it was worth every single penny and every hour of frustration, confusion, and disappointment.

i keep mine because i'm not an a**hole and/or mistreat mine.

Mine isn't your typical dsm i guess in the aspect i don't have a weekly/monthly/ daily thing i need to fix.

Last thing i replaced was a battery about a month ago.
Before that it was a thermostat about a year ago.

things i have done just purely because i wanted it done is...
i have gotten 2 new tires for the front last year.
Right now i am adding cams/ cam gears/ valve springs

if my car broke down as much as i hear from someone who knows someone who's cousin's aunt's ex-husband's son's baby momma's new love toy honda boy said it did i would think about it. but that's all hearsay and doesn't effect me. Only time my car breaks down is when I am stupid and do something to make it break down.

N/T 420 fwd, No engine work. It is a regular car. I wouldnt expect to hear about problems you have had. Start making some serious power and things will change.(are you a girl?)

I love my 1GB. Everything about it. Mine has not left me stranded. When you start to make power you need to start to respect the potential to push it too far. Turning up the Pressure too far usually will be the first down fall, Alot of times people dont know what they are doing, Granted there is a learning curve , But At a certain point increasing psi. Does not increase power, Just potential for detonation. Watching the gauges and the logger should keep you safe, As will running the best fuel, Oil, Etc...Being maticulous about maintenance will save you alot of grief too.

When you get these cars they are already old. It's not like buying a brand new EVO and modding it. Compression is down , The drivetrain has mileage, Bushings wear out, You get the point. In some rare cases you might get a great car but they all need to be treated like Old cars until you fix them up.

Her name is Becka, it says that in her sig.

Isn't that the truth, I got my car 100% stock, one owner with 52k miles. Within a year I needed to replace the turbo and transmission. Now I'm working on getting the engine replaced.

Some are lucky some aren't.

I keep mine because I fell in LOVE with it in college. I bought my first (94 Talon DL) after my mom totaled my other car. I kept it for around 2 years and sold it to a girlwho blew up the tranny in 3 days. Walked everyhwere for 6 months till I found a 92 Tsi. I took it off the road while in grad school due to impending maintenance. 4 years later, the car now sits in my garage under a cover and collects dust. I fire it up every week or so, but the brakes are locked and with building a new house, I don't have much time or money for it anymore. My wife swears I'm retarded for building a larger garage just so I could keep it, but I hope within the next 2 years to get it back on the road and ready for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix when it will meet the age requirement and I can take it racing.

Everytime I go to CB's house and see his 93 that is PHENOMENAL, I get inspired.

Love mine its my money pit for sure, but its fun, and i love driving it, so many upgrades, and i just got my fmic, rims and tires are next. Its my addiction, havent left the game yet and dont plan to.

YES i am a girl. And what makes you think i have no engine work? Does having engine work require having a turbo? if so, thats like saying decaf coffee isn't coffee, or upgrading your tires to Z rated tires isn't a suspension mod.
Correct me if i am wrong but i think you're an idiot.

i guess my engine mods list is as good as a bone stock engine then.
Mods: Engine
01: Megan Racing air intake
01: Spectre Performance air filter
02: Megan Racing cat-back exhaust
03: Pacesetter high flow cat
04: Megan Racing exhaust header
05: Howell Automotive 55mm Throttle Body
06: Ported Intake Manifold (bored inlet to 55mm)
07: Crower stage 2 camshafts
07: AEM cam gears
08: Howell Automotive AFX underdrive pulley.

No point in arguing with stupidity. they ALWAYS win because they come in groups and hordes and in the end...
you just become as retarded as them.

Not trying to bash her, Just saying, Different animal.

I did not say that, You did. I read your profile before making my statement, You have obviously updated it since then. I did not mean to be offensive, I was clearly stating a point. I will not resort to name calling, I was just stating a point that i think alot of DSMers would have to agree with. Wethter or not they do, I still feel that the difference between a 93 TSi and a 97 Eclipse N/T are night and day. Different platform. Different problems.

My DSM has only broken due to user error. I failed to maintain something that was required and motor went, It wasn't anything surprising. Other than that its been the funnest car I've ever owned.

I'll + that on women with dsm's are just Hot! Even if its a Non Turbo 140FlywheelHP DSM that loses to stock 1.5L Honda's, she's still THAT hot! Damn I miss my ex! :( haha

Shoot my N/T ran the same as a newer civic SI, im pretty sure hers will at least keep up with a stock 1.5L honda. ROFLROFLROFL

I'm not going to lie. I have my car because the resale value on it sucks. Who really wants to buy a modded turbo car with 237,000 miles on it? Since it's worth next to nothing, I beat the crap out of it. But I keep it classy. Full interior, quiet exhaust, no gaudy body kits, and no large fart can.

I like to fool myself into thinking I have a high end sports car. Leather interior, sunroof, and performance that will blow the pants off the passenger. I'm doing a pretty good job, IMHO.

Plus, my car gets a ton of attention where ever it goes. I'm always giving joy rides to people.

i'm not going to get into it. you might have clicked on someone elses mod list but i haven't touched mine in like a few weeks to a month now or so. But anywho.

i know the 2G NT (420A) and the 1G NT (4G37) are nothing compared to the 4G63 when talking about out of the box horsepower. i have had both engines, i would know. As for the 4G63, i admit i don't know. But i do know it has a lot of potential. Hahn Racecraft has a 450HP Eclipse RS daily driver that is still street legal. and the new DSMtuners Featured Member: Robert Montalvo has a 661WHP 420A Eclipse. Might not be much to you... but to us non turbo folk it is just inspiration.

and that is why i keep mine. i've done all the work to him myself and as long as someone is out there pushing the envelope showing it can be done... i will reach for my own stars and try to follow.
