taking the whole right front headlight assembly out when running on track?

always have wondered......seen dozens of dsm's do it.

thanks :thumb:

Yup, cool, fresh air to the air filter. They think it helps, and once a drag racer gets an idea into it's head, it's terribly hard to get rid of it.

I doubt 90 in 100 weekend racers could run back-to-back, or week-to-week runs within .2 seconds. But I only enjoy watching the home repair shows so I can scream at the TV, "THAT'S NOT HOW YOU DO THAT!!!", so just skip over this post.

Why not just re-route the air-intake to intake air in that hump that goes over the cam cover?
Because theres a timing belt there.

ram air effect...the intake is right behind the headlight
Negative. Ram air (not that it really works at all below 200 some MPH) especially does not work around sharp 90 degree corners.

Yup it's just for colder air.

Close ;) Ram air doesn't work in a dynamic pressure system such as the car's intake tract until the vehicle is moving at about mach .5 (well above vehicle speeds). Ram air claims to modify the static pressure characteristics of the air stream in front of the throttle plate, when in actuality, the system is inherently dynamic.

Think about it this way...have someone hold the mouth of a balloon open out the window of your car and go any speed you like. If it inflates, I'll eat my timing belt.

Build a custom housing for it. The cam cover doesn't go all the way up to the hood and it can be done. It would create a high velocity airflow too if you use a venturi style intake.

its blocked off on the side to keep water and stuff out. :) :thumb:

Have you ever even opened your hood? There's no way to get all that stuff overthere, and it's not like air flows into the hump anyways.

Cut a hole, but an intake in. Make some straight pipes that go to your air filter and then into your engine.

How are you going to fit 2.5" piping between the hood and the cam cover, if there was that much room the bump wouldn't be there in the first place. Not to mention you'll have 5 miles of piping now with the mass air sensor sitting out in the open elements.

Look this idea is so terrible I didn't even open up photoshop to show you how bad this would look. So here's the mspaint version.

Haha I actully laughed at that one :D

Since you like paint so much here you go.

BTW this will add a max of 3 more ft of pipe if even that.

Look, the first thing I want you to do is go out there and try to make the piping fit in there and still be able to shut the hood. Lord knows that my strut tower bar alone nearly hits it where it sits and it's only about 2 inches above the manifold. Why not just do something with a scoop by the filter in its current location, that'd be much much easier. Not to mention cutting a scoop into the timing belt bulge will be 80% blocked by the timing belt cover.

Ok, while I'd not normally consider this, I think you have an idea you want to try. So if I were you, and wanted to do this, I'd just do it and then tell us whether it worked or not. So do it and let us know.

I won't kill creativity, but you have to have the time to spare/waste in order to find out for sure. So if you have it, get creative.
Peace,
-Jesse

Im sorry but that would probably clutter your engine bay more than help. Not to mention you want the LEAST ammount of piping.
