Where are the FWDs at????

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Just a reminder - this thread was started to discuss fast FWD times. Please check out our 1/4 Mile Times list, which can be sorted by FWD times:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/timeslips.php?&do=fwd

Of course, there is one car that is not being sorted correctly at the moment, and that's kiggly's 9-second FWD which shows up last for some reason. Hope to have that fixed soon, but the list is still a good reference.

mid 12's only takes about 350 hp , suspension, good street tires and the most mportant part, an lsd.

i have a vid of someone running 12.8 in a heavy ass gst spyder & street tires. i would post it but it also has alot of street racing. i know this site doesn't allow that shit. search streetfire.net and you'll find it in the mitsubishi video section.

he had a evo 16g then. now he fully built his motor and upgraded his turbo and went dsmlink. i'm sure he's good for 12.5

i notice alot of fwd guys here are still launching the old fashion way.

You guys need some 2step in your life.

I have a stutterbox on my FWD right now, its set around 3200rpms, I havent had too much practice launching it as of yet, is this the correct rpm range for a fwd with street tires? I'm starting to really get the hang of launching a FWD, I'm used to the 5500rpm slip of an AWD car =)

Correctamundo!

I generally lauch at about 5 psi with my slicks and 2 step. Just enough not to bogg off the line, but only spinning for the first few feet.

How much tire preasure are you running? I am having huge problems right now with traction. I have the 2step set to 5k and I generally have about 8-10psi built from the time I stage to the time the lights drop. I can get out of the hole fine(1.8 60ft) but then I just roast them off in first and second. I need to go up there with a trailer next time and lower the tire preasure to 10psi ish. Hopefully that will help.

Well it really depends on the setup of the car. With a larger turbo you will need to launch at a higher rpm. I would lower the tire preasure to 20ish don't do a burnout because it just makes traciton worse on street tires, and start at 3k rpm. If you get too much wheel spin lower your launch rpm if you bog raise it.

3200rpm's is exactly where I try to launch but I dont have a stutterbox so I dont quite get the rpm launch I want sometimes.

Shit man, I was running 15psi, and that was too much. There is a gas station right down the road of the track, so I will lower mine to 8-12 psi and try that next season. I had my 2 step set at I think around 4k, and built 5-7psi. I could only manage 2.0 60's. I'll get her better next season.

I think you should really be launching with a ton more revs. I used to try the low rpm launch but with the clutch out its hard to modulate the torque. The clutch is a torque transfer unit for me. I just give her a bunch of revs and let first gear slip the whole way through. I typically come out at 5500 or 6000rpm's, wherever I have the SBL set at that day. Even on my NLTS to second I let it slip a bit.

I can come out at 3500 and get the clutch fully released by 4000rpm's. However then I have a huge problem, trying to control the power when the 50 trim spools. On race gas, and 30psi of boost you won't even feel the tires go, let alone have the time to react. All you know is it feels like you just broke both front axles because the engine is popping off the rev limiter and your slowing down.

Ya we have a gas station right down the street from the track as well so I am deffinately going to lower the tire preasure next time. Let's pray I don't snap an axle.

Hell even with pump gas and 24psi its just like that it sucks.

I did 13.9 at 107 roasting 1st and 2nd gear ,with a ugly 2.432 60ft , so I defenetly need a good set of slick or you guys think a 225 /45/17 drag radial would actually help me?????

P.S sorry I haven't introduce myself!...........Hello I am Jose and i am from phoenix AZ.
I mostly read this forums intead of writing ......anyways Hi! :)

Oooo another fwd dsmer that isn't scared to try and make it fast I like it. As far as the track if you are going to go as far as getting another set of wheels/tires to help you might as well just spring for the slicks. The benefits over dr's is huge and the price is buying another set of rims/tires isn't. I take it you were planning on running the bfg's?? I just bought a set for my new rims for street use only, I don't street race....well I really try not to so I am hoping these will give me a little better grip during spirited driving so I am not just spinning the tires at 70mph.

Hello fellow FWD'ers, i am lookin forward to the 2006 season. I am gettin my car together with a SCM5031E 50trim. Im not a huge track guy though unfortunitely, there is a big car scene where i live, most is street racing. I will be tracking it, but need to get ahold of some suspesion first. Glad to see a whole thread about fwd's.

^^ Not so for me. I need a better suspension setup NOW. I'm trading power for traction.(goodbye T3/T4...hello ported 14b). My best was 13.6@106 with a 2.45 60'. What's the sense of having 300+hp running mid 13s. I would be less embarrased with 14.0 on a 14b. My goal is to get low 60' times, not high traps....the rest will follow. Im considering new springs. I currently have eibach sportlines, but I might switch those out for the pro-kit (car too low). If anyone knows a good set of springs with a relatively high rear spring rate...let me know.

Oh yea....I already have plans for an LSD, in case you were wondering. No decision on tires yet though.

I understand what your saying but with FWD's trap speed is more important the ET's. And your right, with a nice 60', and a proper tune, the high trap speeds will folow, along with a great ET. I know its still nothing like AWD on the street, unless you have a good setup of suspension and full LSD, but at the track with a good set of slicks, as long as we can pull 1.8 60's then will will rape AWD's due to trap speeds.

so does that mean my 2.6 60ft beats his LOL

anyway, I want to get the 60 ft down to 2.2 this coming season and hit a low 13 second ET. Then perhaps I will try DR's and see how that goes :)
I was pulling 2.0's on my slicks, and that was peg legging and too much air pressure. Once I get those adjusted properly, theres no doubt in my mind I won't be able to pull 1.8 60's.

Curious, I've noticed over the past few months as I've had winter tires on, with mostly nice weather so far this winter here, I've had opportunities to practice launching... I have GOBS more traction with the winters on dry/warm roads out of the hole, than I ever had with my summer tires.
Can I use a front set of winters at the track along with my summers in the back? Was thinking I would play around with air pressures, ~18 F 35 R.
Thanks.
