Being as im still on the 14b running 20psi when I do this on cold tires or cold pavement this fun little jump on the guy next to me leaves me playing catch up.
This is one of the main reasons I went with a 20g instead of a 16g (besides the fact that I didn't want to jump on the 16g bandwagon). Slower spool really does help quite a bit. I figured the torque of a 16g would break the tires loose in an instant. Kinda sucks we have to go the big turbo route to catch the awd guys but it really makes up for it in the last 1/8th.
After three years of playing with the fwd I decided to go with a holset 35 and go awd. Being as with just a few mods my car went 14.1 @101mph and then after a bunch of upgrades then went back to the track and ran the same exact time with just more tire spin i'm putting the fwd to rest. A holset 35 on a fwd would just be insane though.. If it would hook up it would be a nasty highway car. Just being out in the snow and almost getting stuck today made me really want to get my awd project finished.
i know how you feel i almost got stuck in the snow today too. Also took me an hour to get up the hill to park my car in the garage. Shit, wish i could even start my AWD project, that car has been in a garage since i got. 2yearsBeing as with just a few mods my car went 14.1 @101mph and then after a bunch of upgrades then went back to the track and ran the same exact time with just more tire spin i'm putting the fwd to rest.
I run a HX-40 on my 2g fwd.....People now days seem to give up on fwd way to easy.....Everybody who has given up local, I ask why, and they say because of traction....Funny because they never even try to put slicks on the car, they expect it to hook with street tires...
I went awd and came back to fwd to go at it again....

I wont disappointyour the man, im gonna hold you to that !

Not using my fwd for 1/4 mile, using it for track, haven't gone yet still got a lot of stuff to do before my car gets there! Up here there's a good amount of people getting good times at the track though with fwd.
Don't know if you guys have ever heard of Serge Turcotte but he owns the fastest fwd mirage. Kind of a Quebec version of John Shepherd. Running 8's in a 1/4 and I've heard a few people doing 9's on both Eclipses and Talons. Not sure if it's true or not but in Quebec people that own any DSM are really dedicated being that if it's fwd or awd were always up for the challenge.
I'm pushing over 300whp and of course traction is always an issue. I got a fwd because of the price, highway DESTRUCTION and to prove people at the track that awd and rwd DOESN'T ALWAYS WIN!
12.4 @ 127mph, 1.9 60', kept locking me out of gear...only on 25psi (approx 580-600whp), car has 140+mph traps in it once I get a decent clutch in it. MT ET Drags 24.5X8X15 tires at 13psi tire pressure...
Have you not heard of kiggly? He's our resident fwd icon. Shep is awd.
Do you have lsd? Its seems to me that a fwd car would be even worse on a road course due to the turns. I'd definitely save up for one if I were you. It'll be the single best mod you can do, imo.
Lastly, hp to hp, awd and rwd > fwd anyday. (Of course, given enough money, anything is possible).
Speaking of LSD's, I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a phantom grip lsd. I know it's just an insert and there's a lot of bad talk about inserts but I've read a lot of good things about the Phantom insert, and I can get a brand new one for $120 supposedly. I'm really curious as to how much it will improve traction.
If you end up buying it, put up a description of how traction feels after install vs before. Would be interesting to see if the inserts actually do something worth while.
You say that now since you're still on stock turbo, but trust me when I say it gets pretty annoying when you spin 2nd and 3rd. What are you going to do roll race from mid 4th? WTF
Not to mention you're talking about street racing only (I'd rather have a good track time and a number to prove my car is fast) but I also don't like the idea of taking my stock 17yr old suspension car to speeds of 120+ roll racing.
I know a lot of local guys will roll race their civics and trans am's to 150mph+ on the streets. That's way too dangerous for my tastes and stupid to assume that you're immune from a dog, racoon or deer running out in front of you at that speed.
Looking back I would have bought an awd, but since I have this and have put so much work into it I'll probably build it up for good track times and save the awd for when I get an evo.
... fwd's are fast you just need the right setup...people that burn out in 2nd and 3rd must not have good tires... i mean buy some falkens or pirellis then you'll definitely get traction on the streets... unless ## pushing like 400++ horses... and as for the 1/4 mile buy some slicks and warm them up then you can launch like an awd... oh yeah add the 2 step... fwd's are fast you just need the right setup...

Did any of those later upgrades include suspension mods? You'd think your mph would at least be higher after more upgrades.
(its my first turbo car and three years ago I just had to try it.) Everything else was stock and I didn't even bother doing a boost leak test on it. There should be a link in my profile to my myspace of my car running 14.2 @101. the 14.1 pass wasn't recorded.
