2G What would I need to swap a 99 Manual GST transmission to my 98 Eagle Talon Tsi?

I've been having issues with my tranny going out at 2000 rpms it just slips and I have to be on O/D to be able to drive it normally. So I came across a GST for sale that is also FWD like my Talon and I was just wondering if I could just interchange the parts without having to do too much to my car. My car is an Automatic so I would be converting it to a Manual. I am just curious to know if the parts are compatible. Ive searched everywhere here and I couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the help!

As long as both are 4g63 cars everything will physically "bolt up"

You have to swap the pedal bracket assembly, drill holes in the firewall for the master cylinder, run the clutch line, install the transmission. You may need to swap the ECU as well. Can't remember but im pretty sure it will throw it out of whack once the ECU can't shift the transmisI'ion or lock up the converter.

Would it be just better to rebuild the automatic transmission? and OK thank you for the info!

You don’t need the ECU, nor to make a hole on the firewall, the hole is there all ready and has a plug, just remove the plug and you are all set. There is a TCU in the automatics but is not needed on the standards, so you don’t need a different ECU, just use yours.

However, you need the transmission, Tcase, starter, flywheel, clutch, pilot bearing, shifter and cables, clutch master cylinder with line and slave cylinder, you need the pedal as 97egl mention, you need to modify the harness to make it work with your manual transmission, so you can have reverse lights and neutral switch.

No T-case on a FWD and 4G63s don't use a pilot bearing for a standard transmission but he will need to remove the one in the back of the crank that is there for the automatic.

I am almost positive I had to drill out for the master cylinder. Maybe the main hole was plugged, and I am remembering drilling out the mounting holes for the master cylinder.... either way it's not a big deal especially if it's just mounting holes.

Glad you could add input on the ECU. When I swapped auto to manual it was on a N/T car so I wasn't sure about the 4g63 ECU.

Thanks for the info! My phone broke on Monday so I couldn't reply but thank you very much for the info!

So there will be a pilot bearing in the back of my crank and I will just have to remove it correct?
Yes sir. I have used grease in the back of the crank and pound in an old input shaft from a trans to remove them on Chevy's but on a Mitsu, you can't because the "input" part is the snout of the torque converter. If I recall, I had to use a bearing puller and slide hammer to remove one on a Mitsu. Those are no longer made by Mitsu so if you can save it, post it up for sale. Some aftermarket pilot bushings are now being made to fill the gap. Maybe you would like to keep in just in case you go back to an auto.
