Went for a drive, left the house with no idle surge, gassed up and surge popped up. Did a smoke test and found it was leaking at the elbow coupler, 2 second fix.👍 I love my little smoke machine. ♥️ my knock off RFL bov is also leaking at the piston ~12psi, not sure what I can do about that.

Also ordered Snow Performances HYPER-SONIC [MAX TURBO POWER BOOST MAX] nozzle because why not?

Planning and dreading my 4hr round trip to Eugene, OR for 20gal of VP methanol because that's the closest to me that sells it 😭

Took her out for my weekly short drive and got it dialed in really well, finally. Only running about 27 psi but now it's time to turn her up. Also tried my first rolling anti lag and holy hell that was fun.

Snapped a quick pic when I parked her.

Got some new weatherstrip clips and fixed the saggy door weatherstripping. So much better.

Love fixing these small things. Quality of life fixes I call them.

Thats a good looking DSM .... and you snapped a nice photo.

Took an hour to get the rear balance shaft bearing out. I'm horribly out of practice.

Always keep a spare balance shaft if you do more than one BS delete. They’re the perfect diameter if you flip the shaft to pop the bearings out.

Finally took some time to look at what happend with my engine that let go. It ended up being the rod bolts on cylinder 1. Also ordered a new crank and pistons for a 2.3 build. This will suit my needs better this time around since it's purely a street car and off boost does matter. I'm debating on weather or not to upgrade the rods. I currently have 2 sets of eagles. I don't plan on making over 6 with this car.:idontknow: I just want to have everything at the machine shop so it could get done while i'm on vacation and maybe by sometime in july have my car back on the road.

I have no such balance shafts. I threw my only one out over a decade ago and this motor didn't have one when I got it.
I don't plan on doing this again ever anyway.

Progress was made 💪 just a few more small things like the battery relocation to trunk, fuel pump rewire, and replace fuel hose from pump to hard line with the 3sx kit. Those will have to wait as im broke af (wife off work due to surgery). Which leads me to next question LOL what side hustles yall got that make good money to support these builds?

and then power washed the block throughly. I also cleaned the journals in the crank. Or the ones that doesn't have the balls in them anyways.

While im installing it.... i noticed this hose that runs on the side of the timing belt... I assume it was left over from the a/c

On the firewall side, its connected to nothing and just seems to be dangling out of the way of everthing...

Is there a specific reason not to remove the whole thing or is it super hard to do? Not sure why it was left in if the rest of the ac components were taken out.

Sheer laziness LOL

Took the car out to aim the headlights properly and see how it felt with the 1g maps. Attempting to set this removable airbag cover *fingers crossed*

Try the Evo 8 maps instead. Just add a little more timing up top and lean out the afrs a bit more. But even bone stock it’s a good map.

Found this on my newly polished crank. beyond annoying at this stage. 6 months of lack of progress, then finally movement. And then...

Unfortunately have no idea if it's the fault of one of the machine shops it was passed between ("polished" by #1, rotating assembly balanced by #2) or if it was always there.
Can catch a fingernail on it. Figure I'll get it looked at by the shop but since the upper bearing shells are deep groove by design, if it doesn't have any edge burrs, I don't see how this could cause a failure in the future.
The scratch will hold a additional microscopic amount of oil but, really, is the hydrodynamic wedge created by oil flow and pressure really going to be compromised?

Is that around the entire circumference?

No, I'd say in total less than 50% of the circumference. Basically from one oil hole to the other.

Considering upper shells are grooved and the lowers have a wide radial chamfer around the oiling holes, Im just struggling to see how this could cause a premature failure down the road, with facts only and not conjecture. The amount of flat bearing shell the scratch is inline with is, what, an inch of diameter?
